Fetal Heart beat

My wife is 40 yrs old and 6 weeks pregnant. She had been to her gunac yesterday who told her that the fetal heart beat cannot be detected. Is that normal? Please advice

Did they check it by an internal ultrasound or did they just try the doppler on the belly?  If it was the doppler on the belly it was way to early to detect it since the uterus is still down behind the pelvic bone.  If it was the internal ultrasound then maybe she is just a little more behind than what she thought she was.  Are they monitoring her HCG levels?  That should also be able to tell something as well.  Whatever you do make sure you have a follow up appointment before they talk you into any decisions and if they did not do an internal ultrasound I would request one.  Good luck.

it can take up to 8 weeks for the heartbeat to be know its okay if at 6 weeks there is just a sac and yolk but the heart beat really starts at week 8
