I really need an answer

I'm 45 and my husband and I have been trying to conceive, It's been 6 weeks since my last cycle, which has been normal for several months. I recently took 2 pregnancy test 3 days apart in the evenings. Both test came back negative. I have so many symptoms of pregnancy (nausea, fatigue (always sleeping). headaches, lower back pain, weight gain and mood swings. I really need to know if I am or not. Any suggestions?

I love your spirit and great sense of humor. I know with GOD all things are possible. If it's meant for us to have a child, it will happen. I"ll make sure I keep you posted. I experienced very light bleeding Saturday (one swipe and none afterwards). I'm just counting down to my GYN/OB appt 1/13. It's driving me crazy...LOL.

Sounds the same as me but you're younger and further on.  I'm at the 'expecting a mc' stage - especially after reading all over the 'net that it was apparently a 1 in 10000 (or a million in some places) chance that I fell (even though its now twice in 4 months) and 80-85% chance that I'll miscarry again.

Don't worry about the screening tests.  I bet you'll find out the same as I did in my last pregnancy at 42, that if they deducted 10 years off your age and left everything else the same, you would not be considered at risk.  Knowing that it was purely my age that was throwing up the 'at risk' result made me feel much better but obviously the scan was a big relief.  I didn't want to take the small risk involved in amnio, having had 3 miscarriages prior to that pregnancy.

Fingers crossed everything goes ok for you today and I hope you'll let us know.....

I am 45, will be 46 Jan 18 and am 18w 4d. Apparently I am a freak of nature according to previous posts. LOL I got pregnant naturally and we were not trying nor did I even think I would be able to conceive. I thought I would mc because of my age and when that didn't happen I thought we better prepare the family. They have been supportive but are concerned about my age and the risks as am I. My 1st trimester screening has me at risk for ds and trisomy 18. I go for my sonogram and amnio on Mon. Praying for good results!

So, what how did the test go?  Regarding your age and pregnancy, I have spoken to some women, one in fact that was in my prior gynecologists office (her nurse assistant who called me to the side when I left her office after her hearing my doctor tell me I was too old) about my age and getting pregnant, and she said that she "naturally" got pregnant with her first child at 42, and her second child at 46, and that her secret was the ovulation predictor kits, and just keep trying, and to not listen to anyone that tells you otherwise (my prior gyno told me that I was too old at the time, I was 40, but she was in her late 60's, and getting ready to retire, so maybe she was stuck in that old way of thinking).  That is how I finally got pregant, and I also was told that there was NO WAY I would get pregnant naturally, especially not using any birth control with my husband for almost 19 years, and being 42 but we were not trying to get pregnant, so I don't think that most people ( I sure didn't) realize how perfectly timed it has to be, so I say "don't worry", and keep trying.  Don't let anyone discourage you.  Also, I did not have the option of fertility treatments/etc. as we just didn't have that type of disposable income, so DON'T give up, and DON'T get discouraged, have faith and just keep on trying.  : )  p.s  I used some really cheap ovulation predictor kits called WONDFO that you can find on the internet or EBAY for dirt cheap, but they work.

I think everything has been very well summarized above... it is going to be really hard to get pregnant naturally at 45. You probably started pre-menopause. The best is really to go see a fertility specialist, they are more used to older women trying to get pregnant than regular ob-gyn doctors.

Trying to get pregnant at 45 is very hard,, not to be a downer here but you need to be realistic and have a heart to heart talk with your gyn as to what his or her thoughts are on this. I would also be seeing a fertility specialist (reproductive endocrinologist) and get some guidance. You are likely going to be given the donor egg speech at your age, though there have been some natural conceptions at your age, except the msicarriage rate is so high with poorer quality eggs.  It sounds like you may be starting the early stages of menopause, which means getting pregnant with your own eggs is highly unlikely. Good luck.

Could do blood hcg and fsh... Your pcp or an am/pm clinic could run them. Earlier results w hcg blood and fsh would give a little info re menopause.

Thanks, I was reading several of the post and looks like most women are taking the pregnancy test in the am. I'll check again this Friday 1/6/11 in the am.

You should be testing with first morning urine and if you can get one that is sensitive like a first response early result. They work great.
Good Luck to you
