Is any of you worried that something is going to be ''wrong'' with your baby?

Hey ladies

Now, lately, I can't seem to stop worrying about my baby when I first see him at birth. I've had bad dreams that when I see him for the first time, he's going to have some sort of malformation or something.  Is that normal?  Are any of you worried about that kind of thing? Now, I'm not obsessed with it or anything..but still, I wonder if I'm alone with these feelings.  Of course, I want my baby to be healthy.

I think it has to do with a stupid ultrasound picture they took at 19 weeks.  The baby was moving all over the place and the tech wasn't used to the ultrasound machine..I think she was new there.  Anyway, when I look at his profile picture, it looks kinda weird. It's hard to explain. His profile doesn't look like the picture I have from the 12w ultrasound. Should I worry about an u/s picture? His 12w profile was sooo cute!

I don't worry that anything is going to be wrong with the baby!  I do worry though, that even though this is my 3rd child, that something will go wrong with the labor and delivery part!  Maybe I'm paranoid because the little guy has been breech for the last 3 months.  I am just over 30w, so I know there is still time for him to turn, but it just makes me nervous anyway!  I am sure that you will have a happy healthy little munchkin!! Good Luck and god bless!!

Thanks girls!  I feel better now that I know I'm not the only paranoid mama to be in the bunch! LOL

It's scary because you imagine the perfect pregnancy, delivery..and of course the perfect baby..and I keep thinking what ifs all the time. It's stressful. But, I guess it's just the beginning..let the paranoya begin!  ;)

I hear you.  I can't stop worrying either!

My 3D photos looked more like an alien from Mars than a baby.  And, his head is mearuring big...

Do we every stop worrying?  Once they're born, then we worry about SIDS, then chocking and falling, you name it...

Chances are that we'll all be OK though!

I think it is really normal in pregnancy to worry about the baby...(unless I'm just a super paranoid hypochondriac).  I worry all the time - in the begining I worried that I would go for an u/s and there would be an empty sac, up till 12 weeks I worried every time I went to the bathroom that there would be blood, then I worried when I did the 12 weeks scan because my nuchal fold came back at 2.0 and I thought this was higher than everyone elses, then I had some stupid idea that I got some bacterial vaginal infection which would cause me to have a second trimester miscarriage so i forced my OB to do a swab which turned out fine, then i had a funny looking rash on my back so i go to the doctors and he said i have shingles (turns out it wasnt after I had a blood test done to confirm it), and finally when I got the good news that it wasnt shingles I went to work the next week and a patient comes in and talks and breathes all over me for about 5 minutes before she tells me is in the final stages of chicken pox!!! My Dr did a blood test to check and apparently I have antibodies to chicken pox so I should be fine, but of course I am still worried. Oh, and top of all this I am so paranoid about everything that I eat because a friend of mine ate from a take-away shop and miscarried at 6 months due to listeria.

I remember posting a question about first trimester screening results and I remember yours were really, really good, so I wouldnt worry too much about it. They are pretty good at picking up all sorts of things from the ultrasounds. I cant remember the exact details, but someone I know had a baby with a lot of deformities and they picked it up really early (I think in the u/s a few days before she was 12 weeks), so if there was anything wrong they would have picked it up by now, especially in the 19 week ultrasound. I can understand - you just want your baby to be perfect - I'm sure it will!

poup...  the u/s photos really arnt that pretty anyway.. sometimes you might get a good picture pose. but thats about it. some people would even ga as far as saying they look like something not human....lol
try not to worry... it will be a gerber baby in due time.

elisa... are you going to get the amnio? I too had low numbers and after the amnio all is fine and in the clear. good luck.. I know what your going thru.. ITs tough!!

mel...Cleft defects develop very early in pregnancy. I would think the ob would of cought it by now. and is also traced in the dna.

we all tend to worry what ifs.. and the sad part is when they come.. It even gets harder! I guess that just goes to show how much we worry and love... and just down right want the best for them...oh...Lord.. give me streight! It wont be long now...

well the girl at school knew because they saw it on a regular u/s but only because the tech was good...  and yes they fix it really easy and it probably wouldn't have crossed my mind if it wouldn't have happened to her

How do they usually predict that a baby will be born with a cleft lip--other than a 3d u/s??
Aren't there are other indications before the birth?  This probably will not ease your mind, but cleft lips are easily fixed. The stuff I read about birth abnormalities said that the surgery for a cleft lip is very easy today.

Awwwwwe...chickie, it sounds like everything is going to be totally fine.  Its normal to be paranoid, but just try and remember that all your tests came back totally fine. My cousin was pregnant at the end of last year and I remember seeing some of her u/s pictures and the baby looked very strange. However, her baby ended up being the most beautiful little girl that looked absolutely nothing like the u/s photos. :-)  I'm sure your little boy is going to be beautiful too.

Also, you have the positive ressurance from the testing. I would  love to be in your shoes now. :-)  I'm bummed out b/c I can't celebrate the end of my first trimester b/c I have these negative results looming over my head.

I did do the screening for downs and trisomy..everything was fine.  I guess I am worried just based on that stupid picture!  The doctors tell me everthing looks great with my baby boy...I guess it's just one of those things..I'm probaby stressing over nothing..

It seems as if you're basing your worries strictly on an u/s photos.I wouldn't worry unless your concerns are medically sound.   Did your doctor tell you that your baby was at risk for a genetic and/or physical abnormality? Did you undergo the First Trimester Sceening or any of the second trimester screenings for such issues?

Maybe this will make you feel better. I'm terribly worried that something is wrong with my baby because my  First Trimester Screening report placed me at a high risk for Downs Syndrome and Trisomy 18. This is based on a particular u/s test of the baby's nuchal fold & some bood tests. My u/s test was fine, but the blood work pushed me into an elevated risk. Essentially, I wouldn't put too much stock in the u/s picture. :-)
