MTHFR, C677T/A1298C

My daughter (35) is 12 weeks.  She was already high risk due to previous alcohol and drug related problems - of which are not a problem now - always one day at a time.  This is 3rd preg. with two elementary age children.  Second marriage.  Within last year has had hospital confinement relating to pancreas, pulmonary embollism, pneumonia.  Not in the best of health. Is considered high risk.  Having to take lovenox injections. Just found out    Now considered higher risk. Told Lovenox will not be enough for blood clot problems.  MY and HER question is:  MTHFR mutations, C677T and A1298C information found give pretty much the same explanation; forums understandably give the best outcomes and successes.  But, would like to know the other side of the coin as well.  Birth defects, what kind, has anyone out here had negative outcomes with these pregnancies?

I have 2 mutations of the c677T MTHFR. I took my results to a hemotoligist. It's a thought for you also.  Or you can even go to a genetics person (Dr) not sure of there title.
Best Wishes

I recently was diagnosed with having 2 copies of the mutation A1298C on the MTHFR gene. I was already in the 2nd trimester when I was diagnosed with this blood clot mutation, but fortunately I had been taking baby aspirin since missing my periods 17 days after ovulation. I was given the choice between staying on the baby aspirin or switching to Heparin (same as Lovenox), I decided to stay on the baby aspirin. I am now almost at 33 weeks and stopped worrying about this blood clot mutation.

Your daughter is 12 weeks: miscarriages because of this type of blood clot mutations occur generally in the 1st trimester so she is already past the delicate time. She should make sure she keeps taking her Lovenox every single day as well as an excess of folic acid (I take 4 grams a day because of this mutation) and she should be OK.

I have not heard anything about birth defects because of this type of mutation, I would be surprised if this were the case. I had a long talk with my high risk pregnancy doctor about it, she never mentioned a thing about birth defects.

Your daughter can look for a 2nd medical opinion if she really is worried that the Levonox is not enough, it's never a bad idea, particularly as she has had a myriad of health problems recently.
