Missed miscarriage with pregnancy symptoms

Wondering if anyone has experienced a missed miscarriage, where they discovered the baby had no heartbeat at an ultrasound not preceeded by bleeding and cramping, and still had their pregnancy symptoms such as nausea, exhaustion, and smell sensitivities? I know it can happen but just curious how often it actually does happen or if it is rather rare. Thanks!

I am going through a miscarriage at the moment and it happened exactly the way you described in your post.  I've had m/cs that have just happened really quick and yet others, like this one, that just doesn't seem to want to end.  My baby measured at 6.5 weeks when I had my first u/s at 8.2 weeks.  That was last week, so yes, I am still feeling the nausea, tiredness, sore breasts, etc.  It is psychologically a battle but I've opted for a natural m/c, so I know that I am in for a ride.  I didn't have any m/c symptoms, so if it hadn't been for the u/s I wouldn't have known either.  Until I joined this community, I never thought that one could miscarry but yet still feel pregnant.  Which is partly why I didn't think that this time around I my baby was in trouble.  Needless to say, last Wednesday, when they told me about my baby's fate, I was truly shocked.  With the replies that you've gotten you can see that it does happen, and more frequently than what one would expect.  However, there is always a good side to everything, there are many women who, despite going through several m/cs are still able to carry to term even in their 40s.  So good luck!

I think it's very normal to feel the way you do.  So many seem to feel that us "over 40ers" have no business having a baby, and so we hear all sorts of horrible stats.  Also, combined with the fact that you have had a m/c in the past can make you very fearful.  The reality is that no pregnancy, no matter your age, is 100 safe in the first trimester. For those of us over 40, the risk of loss is somewhat elevated, but you can find stats that are all over the map.  I have read everything from the standard 30% to as high as 90%.  It really depends on who you ask.  I can tell you that many many women are having babies in their late 30's, early to mid 40's.  I just delivered my first baby 3 weeks ago, a week before my 41st birthday.  Prior to that I had 5 m/c in a row.  With this pregnancy I too spotted and bled the whole way through, also had that feeling that things would not progress, yet here he is.  Safe, healthy and in my opinion, perfect!  All we can do is wait and see and in my opinion, that is the worst.  I wish there was some way to know for certain.  Congrats on your pregnancy, and I wish you well!!!  Amanda

Thank you so much everyone,I really appreciate the posts. My story is that my first pregnancy was a missed miscarriage with no bleeding, spotting, cramping, nothing. Discovered at 9 week appt.  My next pregnancy I spotted regularly during the whole pregnancy and everything was perfectly fine. Then I had two more healthy uneventful pregnancies with absolutely no spotting. So I have my 3 babies and now find myself unexpectedly pregnant at 42. Can't seem to wrap my head around this, just feel like it isn't meant to be.  In spite of the fact that i have nausea, smell sensitivities and exhaustion. In hindsight I realize that my first pregnancy (the miscarriage) my symptoms were very, very mild, while the next 3 healthy ones included the horrible nausea, exhaustion and smells. Anyway,no spotting so far this time, but I'm just completely preoccupied with the m/c statistics for over 40 combined with this feeling that my family was complete and this is not meant to be. Anyone else? Is this just hormones making me crazy???

I had a missed m/c - found out by u/s at 8 weeks.  I had the pregnancy symptoms - nausea, big time sore bb's. They hung around a few weeks after the diagnosis while I waited for a natural m/c.

I had a missed MC where I continued with all symptoms of pregnancy and even continued to grow a large belly. The fetus was aprox 8 weeks and I was 20 weeks preg. Since it was my first preg, I trusted my doc when she told me at 12 and 16 weeks that not finding a heartbeat with a doppler was normal. I had an ultrasound at 6 weeks and there was a clear heartbeat so I was not worried. To my surprise at about 20 weeks, I had pink urine and though I would get it checked out. I went to tow diff hospitals that did not have an ultrasound machine and could not find a HB with the doppler but both docs at the ER told me my cervix was closed and it must have been babys position. I did not trust this so I went to the thirs hosp where I had an ultrasound and discovered that at 20 weeks the baby was only 8 weeks. It was devastating. 2 D&C's later and a brutal recovery that lasted forever - hubby and I fell preg immediately and are currently carrying a healthy little peanut and at 33.5 weeks along. Trust your motherly instinct and fight for health care. Dont give up until you are content with the answers. Hope this helps a little. :)

I had a missed miscarriage discovered by ultrasound around 8 weeks.  I opted for a D&C.  In reality, all miscarriages start out as missed miscarriages.  Every women and every situation is a bit different in terms of when your body realizes what has happened and begins to deal with it naturally.  In my case, the sac was only measuring about 6 weeks, so it had happened sometime before. I was still having pregnancy symptoms.

I've found out that I had a missed MC when I went to my regular OB appoint. Before that I also had an US and everything looked perfected and she was measuring 8wks 3 days.. and they told me I was worried too much..interestingly when I had the second US at week 11..the baby was measuring 8 wks 4 days..so  the heartbeat was stopped after the US,the next day and they couldn't even see anything when i was there for week 8 US.....so I did carry her for three weeks after the heaetr beat stopped....

I had one that went to 18 weeks- my only child was 6 and was there at the routine ultrasound- I had all my symptoms- but was also getting the chills/feeling like I was getting sick- and HUGE back pain- all which I told dr about. He couldnt find heartbeat at 12 weeks then 16 weeks- I was alarmed but he seemed to not care- didnt listen to me. I was also getting bigger- baby seemed to pass at 7-8 weeks and my body was reabsorbing it.

Was sent home and had a D and E a few days later.

Then a fe wdays after that I got a call that my PAP smear from 8 weeks earlier- which I thought was ok- was not- and I forced nurse to tell me on the phone (rather than wait a week for an appt) that it came back as CANCER- not displaysia ... was a very hard time ...I was about 26 yrs old

I learned of my twins' demise at 9 weeks (by ultrasound, no bleeding or cramping).  Opted to miscarry naturally, and it took four more weeks before they passed.  In the meantime and afterward, I still had pregnancy symptoms.  Doc explained that this is because the placenta is a separate organ, and does not stop functioning even if the babies hearts stopped, for a while.  In fact, a piece of the placenta remained behind (still healthy) even after the babies passed, and I finally had to have a D&C to remove it, as it gave me continued hCG readings even though I was not pregnant.

My 1st pregnancy was a missed mc.  Had all the pregnancy symptoms and no signs of miscarriage.  We didn't find out until we went in for a 12wk ultrasound.  At the 8 week ultrasound everything was fine.  I remember we were SO excited to see how big the baby had gotten only to find out we miscarried probably shortly after that 8wk ultrasound.  We were devastated.  THe miscarriage then dragged out for 5 months before a D&C was finally done.  Sad, sad time for sure.  I'm happy to say that we are pregnant again and am now 27 weeks.  So far so good.  This baby will be due almost exactly a year later from when the 1st one would have been due.

Hi
I have had 3 missed miscarriages - no bleeding or cramping and pregnancy symptons ( nausea, sore breast, tiredness, etc ) continued.  First one I found out at 13 week scan,  next 2 earlier as requested earlier scans. All had stopped growing around 6-7 weeks.
I dont know how common this is but is common for me!
On a positive, I am now 21 weeks pregnant and going well so far.
Have you actually had a miscarriage or just concerned?
