Natural Miscarrage or D & C?

My baby died at 6 weeks.  I've had severe cramping and spotting for about 4 days now.  Dr. wants to schedule me for a D & C but I would rather let it pass naturally.  Our insurance only covers patial...so we are responsible for about $2K.  We are devasted about the mc....Has anyone exerienced a natural mc?  Please provide details.... I'm eager for the sac to pass or the fetus as I plan to bury it.  My family is pressuring me to get a D & C.  I'm giving me body two weeks...don't want to risk an infection.  Really appreciate any sharing....thanks.

Its best to go with a natural it is less stressful on your body...your dr can give you medicine to take to help pass the baby...and your dr can do blood work weekly to make sure your hcg levels drop back to 0...im so sorry for you loss...i have been there too...twice...the first i had was a d&c because i was already 10 weeks and my last one 6 weeks ago i was 7 weeks and my dr just gave me medicine to take...plus if you do a natural you can start trying sooner...when i took the medicine it took about 4 hours to work i started having really bad cramps almost like labor pains and i started bleeding very heavy but only for that day...i had stopped bleeding the next 2 days than started up the third day for a week...they say everyone is different...i hope that helps you out some

I do agree with agrell that everyone is different.  I have had a D&C and a natural m/c and don't know which one was worse.  With the D&C they did not do it properly coz a couple of days after I had it the doctors phoned and told me the tissue they removed had no signs of a baby, so I had to go for another u/s and they found the whole sac and everything still there!!! When I had my natural one it was quite painful, I got woken up with really bad cramps that came on and off every 5 minutes and went on all nite like this, then I started bleeding heavily the next day and actually saw when I passed the foetus which was really sad. But after that my body didnt get rid of all of all the tissue for a couple of months until one day I sat on the toilet and a huge golf ball sized blood clot came out (which I had never had before).  This obviously did the trick though coz I fell pg 2 months later and had a beautiful little girl.  All the best with whichever way you go.

I am so sorry for the loss of your baby. I've had 3 miscarriages: 2 natural and one D&C. The one I had the D&C for was a loss at 8 weeks. The doctor had given me drugs (misoprostol) to help me pass the fetus naturally...I went through two rounds of this horrible stuff because it didn't work the first time (it essentially sends your body into labor). Despite all the pain and bleeding, it didn't work the second time either, so I wound up having a D&C after all. The misoprostol is supposed to have an 80-95% effective rate, but I guess I just fell on the wrong side of the odds. Best of luck to you and don't give up hope - after my 3 miscarriages, I am now 14 weeks and 4 days pregnant at 39 years old. God is good and miracles do happen!

Thank you to all you beautiful Moms for your support.  Last Thursday I started spotting.  Cramping started on Sat.  Today is Thursday and after 5 days of intense labor pains on and off...plus light bleeding....I think I passed the fetus this morning.  I decided to take a warm bath this morning as I hardly got any sleep last night with the labor pains...At one point I sat in the toilet and water just gushed out....no clots, no blood, just cleared...it wasn't pee. This was last night.  Intense labor pain, but didn't pass anything. Well this morning as I'm squating in the tub, suddenly lots of clots started to come out.  It took about an hour and then there it was an oval about 2 inch clot like a hen egg.  I touched it and it was hard.  I was trying to get it but it went down the drain.  More blood....and that was it.  I was really surprise that it wasn't painful at all.  My baby died at 6 weeks.  What's next?  Is this it.... I need to go to the dr to get my blood work but not sure if I just wait and rest....I couldn't have done this naturally without your support.  Reading the posts and understanding what to expect really helped me prepare to avoid the D & C.  Thanks and God Bless.

Hi,

am so gllad your miscarriage is now over.  I think going through the pain of miscarrying naturally has a kind of cleansing effect, mentally.  It was that way for me.

I have had D&C (after waiting for natural miscarriage that didn't happen) and second time misoprostol to help encourage the miscarriage at about 6 weeks.  The placenta came out whole and was kind of like an egg.  I much preferred the natural way.

You can go back to the doctor to get levels drawn in a few weeks, or you can just wait for your period to come.  Your period should come back in 4 - 8 weeks.  Some doctors say wait 1 or 2 cycles to try again, but other say it's ok to try again immediately if you feel up to it.

Best wishes to you and your husband and your angel baby and your future baby.
