Pre-natal testing

I was just wondering if it seems strange for a doctor to start pre-natal testing at 14 weeks along , I just had my first pre natal visit and they said they dont order any tests till 14 weeks, does that seems weird to anyone or is it normal?  He only did a pap, and pelvic and said my uterus is in unison with my due date I am 6wk4days now and getting a lot of cramping everyday, this is my 9th pregnancy with 6 healthy births and 2 m/c's that where 10 years apart but the last on was a very bad one and I actually passed the fetus at home and wrapped it in a napkin to bring to the hospital for an emergency d&c I was 10wks along but fetus was only 7weeks.  Im just very nervous about another m/c.

I am 34 years old and my doctor said because of my age he recommends only doing the amniocentesis and not the triple/quad screen which is cvs, nucheal, aft and I can't remember what else.  As for the prenatal testing it does seem a little odd to me, (especially him not performing an u/s) but maybe he just does things differently.

There are a few prenatal tests that are done in the 1st trimester such as cvs, nuchal testing.  I don't know a whole lot about these tests since I had neither done.  I'm surprised that your doc doesn't at least do an u/s to date the pregnancy and make sure everything's going okay.
