Protein in my urine

Had my OB appt today and I was told that I now have protein in my urine.  They weren't that concerned, and OB said they'd watch it....so I was wondering if anyone could translate that for me.

Ive dealt with it since 20weeks... so I can relate. Ive done 3  24hr catches, each time I was told I was "leaking protein" but the number hasn't gone up too much (but my pressures have) I had pre-e w/ my first pregnancy 20 yrs ago and was on bedrest for the last 3mo, but we dont seem to be that advanced yet (knock on wood) I was told to drink at least 60oz of water a day and be cautious on sodium intake (I spend a LOT of time in the bathroom!!)
keep your chin up girlie!! we're almost THERE!! YAY!

If it was just one test, I wouldnt' worry too much about it.. you have had enough to deal with... just take good care of yourself and try to have faith that the rest will work out...

I don't think so.....i think if you have bacteria in your urine it could mean UTI.

I always thought protein in urine meant there was blood in the urine which meant a UTI...

I have had protein in my urine since I was in my early 20s. It's never been at a high enough level for the MDs to get overly concerned. I've had testing on my kidneys and everything, and they can't find anything wrong. As far as pregnancy goes, I've also had it in my urine during this pregnancy, but not at a high level. I have had to do 24-hour urine collections a couple of times so he could check kidney function but, other than that, no big deal. I'm sure he'll keep an eye on it to be safe, but if your MD isn't concerned, I wouldn't be either.

Protein in your urine can mean a couple of things...kidney infection OR preeclampsia. However, if you don't have any of the other symptoms of preeclampsia (mainly high blood pressure), the doctor will likely just keep an eye on it. As far as watching YOURSELF, just pay close attentions to fluid intake (make sure you drink enough water), and notify your MD immediately if you have abnormal water retention/swelling in your feet, hands or face.

You'll be fine, little miss worry-wart!

That's what I thought...do you think the pre-eclampsia is inevitable or just possible??

This means you are at risk of pre-eclempsia (sp??) I think which is a serious condition.  A friend of mine delivered very early because of that.  Your ob should watch it closely.
