TERRIFIED to have this baby

I am 39 years old and found out two weeks ago that I am pregnant. Unfortunately, I was getting ready to file for divorce,my grandmother had a little girl when she was 40 and she died at five years of age from down syndrome, and my soon to be ex husband is a twin.  I am terrified! I want soo badly to feel positive about this but I am struggling..... Has anyone ever had these fears?

Whatever you choose to decide, don't let anyone make you feel bad about it.

JEN, I HAVE READ, YOUR STORY AND HAVE SOME ADVICE, FIRST OF ALL MARRIAGE IS FOREVER. I KNOW IT IS EASIER SAID THEN DONE. BUT, WITH GOD AND PRAYER ANYTHING IS WORTH FIGHT FOR ESPECIALLY THE LIFE THAT IS GROWING INSIDE OF YOU, EVERY CHILD DESERVES A MOTHER AND FATHER. MAYBE THE BABY WILL BRING BACK, SOMETHING THAT IS LOST IN YOUR MARRIAGE YOU OWE IT TO YOUR UNBORN CHILD TO GIVE IT A TRY, AND ALSO SEEK SOME MARRIAGE COUNSELING AND SPIRITUAL COUNSELING BEFORE YOU FILE FOR DIVORCE, ITS WORTH A TRY. DON'T JUST WALK AWAY YOU HAVE A FAMILY TO CONSIDER , MY PRAYERS AND HUGSS ARE WITH YOU JEN :-) WISH YOU ALL THE BEST AND YOUR PRECIOUS BABY :-)

Its important for you to immediately start taking Folic acid pills. They are fairly cheap, but you can rest assured that you have started your little Miracle off to a great start. The first trimester is the most important at preventing any type of complications. Good luck Sweetie

I had similar concerns because of my age and condition of my relationship. Unlike when your grandmother was pregnant there are screening test to determine the presence of down syndrome in a fetus as early as 12 weeks. I believe every child is a blessing but I am also very practical. Look at your support system and see if you life and circumstances can provide a good environment. I wish you all the best whatever you choose!

There are several ladies on here that have gotten pregnant and given birth close to your age and older,, and there babies are just fine.  They have testing for downs now, so you can make an informed decision.  I also have several friends that are parenting twins on their own, and making it, if it would come to that.  I know it's not the  most  opportune time, but it has happend.  Give yourself time to process everything.   It might just be a blessing in disguise :)

My mom got pregnant with my brother when she was 39. He is now 6 and such a blessing in the family. She always days that she is so happy she has him because we are all grown up now and in different cities, but she is not alone or booted. She had her hands full with a child that makes her feel young again. He is such a beautiful boy.. He calls me princess when I visit... There is always a reason for things happening, and you should just roll with it. BTW you don't have to worry about twins unless you carry the twin gene. It is up to the ovulating female to produce two eggs.

Well sweetie, I can't sy that I have but, I know everyone doesn't believe in God, so please if you take this in the wrong way of any kind, I truly apologize. But hun, if you are pregnant it's for a reason! Your grandmother that became pregnant and lost her child @ five, that was meant to be. Not saying that it didn't hurt like hell and wasn't pure hell for her and family, but that precious little life was suppose to be there too! It's not an easy thing to lose a child at all, let alone @ the age of five. So I understand your concern. But @ the same time, your baby could come out one of the most healthy beautiful babies you have ever had the chance to behold! I could imagine the fear it gives you. With genetics having it rusty claws of fear in any family that has those issues, but @ the same time, a person that has no problems genetically in their family history can also have the same child as if they did! And for your soon to be ex-husband, please don't even focus your energy on him or the whole damn issue for that matter!! Focus on that little life that's growing inside of you, I mean maybe God has given you this baby to help you through something???? Hey look @ me I'm 10 weeks pregnant and addicted to tramadol!!! And this is one of the hardest things I've have had to go through! So please, please be happy I think you deserve it, something tells me that!! :) Also... If want or need to talk to someone.... I'm here. You can PM me any time you want! Good luck and I'll be praying for you and the little bitty!!
