Vomiting

Anyone have a baby who spits up like an ounce at a time after feeding and if so, what did you do to fix it. Brayden burps but then soon thereafter spits up and then lots comes out and then every time he hiccups or burps later after that, more comes out equalling about an ounce. We have changed formulas about 5 times now and now he is on soy with no relief in sight

My son used to projectile vomit after each feeding.   The only thing that helped was feeding him less and more often.

thanks; he just went to the dr and since he is gaining weight; he is now 12 lbs 12 oz; they said to grin and bear it and don't try to burp him so much; too weird for me but nothing else I can do

Both my babies were huge spitters!  My DD spit up terribly past her first birthday, even.  But her doc said as long as she was gaining weight, she was fine.  It was just a nuisance.

My DS was given reflux meds at about two months.  In addition to spitting, he was obviouly very uncomfortable.  After eating his bottle he would cry and scream, sticking out his chest and flailing his body around until he would spit up a large amount.  Then he would seem relieved for about half an hour when the whole process would repeat.  He took meds for about a month and then we weaned him off it and he was fine.  He still spit like a 'normal' baby until about six months when his GI tract began to mature.

I know several of my friends were concerned that I was giving my son meds as relfex is over-diagnosed and medicated by docs, but in my son's case, I'm convinced it was the right thing to do.

Good luck to you and your child.

Thanks

He has been burping and sometimes instead of spitting up from his mouth, it just pours out of his nose, formula, that is. He seemed a little stuffy but his nose was clear and then the last two days, clear mucus has been coming from his mouth in a burplike fashion

I am going to check with the pediatrician again. I was just concerned because my first son had pyloric stenosis and needed surgery for the incessant vomiting as he had a blockage in his stomach but Brayden seems to be gaining weight but I do think we overfeed him as well. Now sometimes he cries after burping so I am going to assume that it has to be acid reflux and colic and beg for help

Ask your pediatrician to check for acid reflux or even the silent kind.  Is he uncomfortable after feeding even after he's burped?  There's a prescription med that works really well.  Tanker's right - consult shesherm - she has a baby w/this problem.  the good thing is that your baby will probably outgrow it by the end of the 1st year - yuck.  What a long time to wait :-0

I agree that if they are overfed, that increases the spit-up.  I know w/Noah that when we push the formula thinking he's still hungry because he's rooting around for the bottle, we find that he spits up more even though he's drank some formula and usually it's quite a bit.  Oh and is he congested or has a snotty nose?  I wondered that when i read that the stuff he was spitting up was clear (snot) or that could be formula too.

Thanks; they are so insistent that it is nothing to worry about but now not only does it come out of his nose and is the formula, but also it is now clear too and he gags and cries

You  may want to try Zantac. Get it from your Dr. it may be a reflux problem and not formula. I have put Blake on it for a week now and he seems to spit up much less :)

You might pm shesherm. I know her daughter had a lot of problems with this.
