What healthy foods are you eating now that you are pregnant?

I was wondering what healthy foods are you all eating now that you are pregnant?

I've been eating lots of grapes lately red and green, never really was into them before.

I am having caesar salads most days for lunch at work (minus the croutons cause have gone off them)
I have also had some soft cheeses (just a tiny bit here and there) I think its ok your body knows what's good and bad for it. For example can't stand the taste or smell or coffee, beer, wine, raw fish.
And have gone off steak even though I love them. They say if you go off red meet and love fish more  your having a girl so we shall see in 6 weeks!
All this food talk is making me hungrey........:)

Oh thanks for telling me about the Hellmans mayo not having raw eggs. I'll go look for it.  Unfortunately, the Ceasar that I liked was refrigerated, but maybe I can try another brand that's not "authentic".

Thanks for the info I feel better now and hungrier.

It's the Cliff Builder Bars that have the Vanilla Almond flavor - YUM!

Oh, and the Caesar dressing?  Most, if not all of the stuff you buy at the store does NOT have raw eggs in them.  Only authentic Caesar dressing - it would have to be refrigerated.  Authentic Mayonnaise has raw eggs too.  I can't say "real" because Hellman's claims to be "real"  although it does NOT contain raw eggs.

When eating out however I would either bring your own "safe" Caesar or ask.  Most restaurants don't make it that way anymore because of the Salmonella risk.

So go Athena (appropriately Greek)!  Be free!  Eat your Caeser Salads with credence!

Fugitive

Thanks for the milk suggestion.  I've been craving milk too, but the milk I drink has no flavor.  I'm gonna get some Horizon Organic and now I want to try the Vanilla Almond Luna/Cliff bars.

Today I went and bought fruit.  My last pregnancy I ate an apple, banana, and orange a day and my 4 year old son has a high IQ.  I wish apples were in season though they don't taste that great right now.

Your welcome.

What do you put on your veggie sandwich?  It sounds good.

I was disapointed to find out from Kaiser NO Ceasar dressing or mayo because it has raw eggs and could pass an infection.  UGH now I don't know what to put on my salads anymore.

Oh my god!  MILK!  I want it all the time.
I grew up on fresh dairy milk, bought right on the farm & stopped drinking it by the glass since I was forced to switch to the flavorless carton stuff.

THEN I discovered organic.  Wow!  It actually tastes like milk!
Horizon Organic has a 2% with added DHA, Perfect!

I have Amazing Grass Green Superfood drink mix.  I get all the days veggie nutrition in a yummy morning fruit smoothie.

I satisfy those chocolate cravings (due to pregnancy or due to just being a girl) with Luna Bars or Cliff Builder Bars.  It's not chocolate but their Vanilla Almond flavor is awesome.

I seem to be having issues with carbs of some sort - possibly gluten.  For the last few days I've been bloated & gassy to the point that I look 4 mth preggers! (I'm 6w 2d)  I feel awful after a Cup 'O' Sodium...err, Noodles, but fine after hard boiled eggs.  Horrible after a sausage biscuit but fine after my ham & potato stew?

I started an experiment today - hb eggs this morning, tomato soup & can'o'tuna for lunch & protein bar snack.  So far, great!  And the tummy is shrinking.

Thanks Athena, I didn't know that! As a total coincidence, I just read it yesterday in a magazine, after I posted. :( Mostly my sandwiches have been vegetarian but I did have roast beef a couple of times.

Make sure not to eat cold deli meats.  They have to be cooked because it can pass an infection to the baby.

The first thing I am going to eat after giving birth is a Cold Cut Combo from Subway.

So far my diet has consisted of what I can keep down, and what I can't. :(
I'm bummed because I thought that I would be all healthy and eating this fabulous diet, taking my supplements religiously, etc. but at 13 weeks I am still dealing with 24/7 overwhelming nausea. Just keeping food down is a triumph.

I do prefer and crave raw foods, like Adgal said.  Cooked foods are problematic but I love salads, and any kind of cold sandwich. I try to get some protein in whenever I do eat a salad or a cold sandwich so that it's more beneficial for me.

Fibre crackers and cheese to help with the contispation.
I also developed a swwet tooth which has now caused me to have have high sugar levels so that's all gone so fresh fruit grapes, rock melon and mango don't give me heart burn - kiwis do!
apart from that I pretty much eat normally. Hot buttered toast is YUMMY ! I am going to have some this evening when I get in! :)

Ha, yeah I think my unhealthy cravings outweigh my healthy cravings too!!

I think a lot of the things I'm "craving" are the things that I would normally avoid to keep my weight down, like bread.  And lots of it.  I'm treating myself to lovely hot, buttery toast every night before bed.  Yum.

Some of the healthier stuff I've been drawn to includes really sweet fruit (nectarines, peaches, etc.) and, like Athena_M, rasin bran which I hadn't had in ages, but now have pretty much every morning.  With toast.  Yum.

I'm always wanting Raisin Bran almost every morning.  Lately my craving is for Mexican food.

One day I want something and the next day I don't. I feel like I'm wasting food.

I am still going through phases (6weeks).  But did any of you find that once you had enough of something, you could not stand it anymore?  I had a huge egg salad wrap the other day which tasted great, but now if I think about it, it makes me heave!  I used to love eggs, but now they are on the bottom of the list for me.  (and they were organic, free range too!)  And for some reason, meat.....ugh!!!!

Please tell me this stops...

Oh Peanut Butter is a must!!  I swear I could just sit and eat it straight out of the jar.  Can't get enough.  I also make bean salad which is really good for you.  High in fibre, iron and protein and low in fat.  It's especially good because of that meat aversion.  I make it from purple cabbage, kidney beans, black beans and chickpeas and add oregano and basil.  Dress it with a bit of balsamic vinegar and it is fantastic! And super healthy.

My DH is the same way about health right now..its always..should you be eating that?  Or, are you getting enough of this?  I tell him he can decide when he can carry a baby...if I need junk food sometimes then so be it.  Besides, a Wendy's bacon cheesburger can't be that bad...it has veggies on it and meat.  Dairy too....see I can justify it!  lol.

Funny about the peanut buter!  W/my first I HAD to have a snickers bar EVERYDAY!  I LOVED peanut butter still do but when I was pg w/her I REALLY loved it.......well, my DD is allergic to peanut butter...weird!
2nd pg I got into coke.not diet but the real stuff I had NEVER drank sodareally before, I also got a REALLY REALLY bad sinus infection w/this pg.  Well, my son is a SPAZZZZ even @ 11, sweetest kid ever but SOOO much energy STILL!  & he has HORRIBLE sinus's! (so sad!)
& w/my 3rd, I HAD to have veggie burgers & egg burritos from del taco.  I would literally drive 30 minutes sometimes for these veggie burgers that I HAD to have! LOL
Well my DD is a vegetarian ( I have been for 20+years)  although she will eat chicken nuggets, but only certain ones.  & she HATES HATES HATES eggs!  I could bot get enough of egg burritos, I think for a bout 2 months I ate them almost daily!  I would have to get on the FRWY to go to the only Del Taco around here!
My pg I lost in Feb I HAD to eat strawberries they settled my tummy & I got into yogurt parfaits from McDonalds!
WEIRD how when you are pg, there are SOME things you JUST HAVE TO HAVE, & others you HAVE to stay away from!
Good luck to all you pg mommies!!!!

OH NO!  Now I'm going to obsess over it until I can get the car and get out of here which probably won't be until sometime next week!  My dh is fully supportive of a healthy diet and refuses to indulge my processed food cravings and views it as a threat to his unborn child -- too much reading of health conscious propoganda on the Internet :-)  He'll run out and search the 24 hour grocery stores for cherries at all hours of the night, but not for the unhealthy processed foods.  And he calls himself supportive...

Now if we're talking about craving NON healthy foods, then for me it's Harvey's poutine (for those Canadians among us) -- French fries with gravy & cheese curds.  The gravy melts the cheese and it all melds together in a gooey mass of goodness.  Yum.

For me it's anything raw...I crave fresh raw fruit and vegetables.  I also crave peanut butter and eat a tonne of it!  I still can't stand meat for the most part though.  I thought at 18 weeks, the aversions would be gone, but still can't even look at the stuff.  Although I do get the odd craving for a Wendy's bacon cheeseburger!!

I was dreading answering this question...but I am with Heather5 on this.

Since having Crohnes disease, I have certain food I feel ok with and other not.  Unfortunately, my "safe foods" have been carbohydrates.

Meat, vegetables, fruit, very difficult to digest for me.  But can easily woof down some fries. Figure that one out! LOL

Grapes and cherries and more cherries and more cherries and now that the cherries are ending, it's all about the grapes which are served best with a bit of cheese (fresh from the market - nothing artificial) which helps to maintain a consistent sugar level.

Did I mention the cherries?  Mmmmm.

I'm a little embarrassed to say that I'm not really eating that healthy. I keep craving horrible foods, like MacDonalds, and I've kinda had this food aversion for all types of vegetables since I got pregnant (although it is a little better now that I'm in my second trimester). I do try to eat more fruit, though, to kinda make up for the lack of vegetables, especially apples and clementines. But I really should try to eat a bit healthier...
