Oh some people have to try IUI several times....even without IUI a person has basically a 25% chance of getting pregnant just on their own and without any help.   Some people get lucky and get pregnant the first month, and others have to keep trying and trying.   Don't feel too discouraged after IUI #1.  I know TTC is so very difficult and frustrating, just keep up your encouragement.  Don't expect it to work the first few times, hope for it of course and if it does it's nice, but otherwise just keep in the back of your mind that it may take more than one or two attempts.  I know that's probably not what you want to hear, but just hang in there.

Also maybe try retesting the FSH...I do know it changes each month.   Also suggest the clomid challenge test, this wil give a better picture of ovarian reserve and true FSH level than just a FSH on CD3.

The anteral follicle count is generally done at the beginning of the cycle.  I'm not sure if CD3 is too early, maybe it's better by cycle day 7.   They can only do this via ultrasound.   I don't know that it's something that specifically needs to be ordered, and I believe in general when they look at your ovaries they would be able to do this.

I can't respond to the second part of your question.   I can tell you that low antral follicle count and high fsh are in general indicators that it's harder to stimulate ovaries with injectibles.

Did your doctor tell you that you're not a good canidate for IVF or something like that?   I have heard, however, stories that women do get pregant with high FSH levels.   So I wouldn't throw in the towel or anything like that.  And you are younger so maybe your ovarian reserve isn't fabulous and that is why the FSH is on the high even, however, you probably have eggs of good and better quality, maybe you just have a low reserve and it's just a matter to get to the good egg.

However, I don't think your FSH is that horrible and I don't think a successful pregnancy is out of the question for you.
