bacterial vaginosis and yeast infection during first trimester

Has anyone was treated for bacterial vaginosis infection or yeast infection during first trimester? What medicine is safe to take for treating these two infections during 12w of pregnancy? My OB has prescribed me fluconazole 150 mg (one tablet only) for yeast infection and metronidazole 500 mg (to take for seven days) to treat bacterial vagnosis infection. She said it is safe however I am still hesitating. Please I need your advices.

I took the same meds in the first trimester and didn't have any problems. The dr said not treating it can put you at risk for losing the pregnancy. Good luck and feel better!

As a reminder - you  and always to to ACOG (American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology) or CDC if concerned about meds etc, CDC will give you the pregnancy category of a drug and are ALWAYS very conservative.

I was diagnosed with BV but in my third trimester.  I was prescribed Flagyl, but ended up doing the metronidazole suppositories.  I don't think your doctor would prescribe anything that was harmful.  good luck!

I wasn't treated for the same thing as you, but still wanted to add this thought...when I was pregnant I was very concerned about taking anything.  I have similar concerns now while breastfeeding.  I have personally found the pharmascist to be the best source of information in terms of what is safe and what isn't.  I always check with him/her.  It is their job to know any and all possible side effects or problems for a pregnant/nursing mom.  Hope you feel better soon and congrats on your pregnancy.

very important to treat BV. unfortunately, Clindesse isn't available right now (thanks to the FDA - no problems with the medication, just red tape)  It's a one dose cream that is fabulous!! Treat the infection and dont worry. Some people get recurrent BV with pregnancy... just bacteria that gets out of balance.

The medication are safe as long as you are not on them for an extended period of time.  We treat pregnant woman with these same meds all the time.  You will be taking a greater risk to your babies by not treating the infection.

I've been treated for yeast infections during pregnancy. No sideeffects from medication. I think you be in more danger from letting these things fester.
