do I wait for second ultrasound?

I'm 8 weeks pregnant, went for a ultrasound(my first) on the 03.12.2013 and the doctor said that there was no heartbeat.  According to the doctor the ultrasound shows that I'm only 6wks and 2 days and that the pregnancy should be terminated. Another doctor said that it is to soon and that I should wait another month and the go back for a second ultrasound.  The worst part of the situation is I'm getting married next week and we have to deal with this as well. A month is a very long time.

What exactly did the ultrasound show?  Did they see a fetal pole with no hr or was it just a sac that corresponded to 6wks?

The answer to that question will tell exactly what's going on.  If you don't know the answer,  you should call your dr now and ask.  They would just need to look up the ultrasound report and explain the findings.

I agree at 8 weeks you should see a heartbeat. Maybe your dates are off and your not as far along as you think you should be? Make sure to factor in a couple days for a later ovulation and implantation. Also, having been thru numerous IVFs myself I can tell you my doctor always told me at 6.3 and 6.4 weeks there would be a chance we wouldn't see the heartbeat because I was still real early. He would tell me this before each of cycles on my first ultrasound. Personally, I would wait and have another ultrasound. I have seen both happy and not so happy outcomes to this similar situation. I know it's difficult to wait till that next scan but I think it would be worth knowing for sure what the outcome is. I wish you the best! Please keep us posted.

Oh honey, what a difficult situation, and one I have been in more then once.  I am so sorry.

I will be honest with you.  An ultrasound with a pregnancy dating 8 weeks should show a heartbeat.  Even one at 6 weeks should with today's ultrasounds.  So honestly, this does sound like it may be a missed miscarriage.

The flip side of this is that you should not feel pressured into doing anything you aren't ready to do.  Before making a decison like a d&c (which is not a termination.  Procedurally it is the same, however termination is choosing to end a viable pregnancy, while a d&c is clearing your body of a non viable pregnancy) - before making this decision you need to feel 100% certain, with absolutely no doubt whatsover.  There is nothing wrong with waiting a week or two for a follow up ultrasound, or, if this is a miscarriage, for nature to take it's course.  Do not be pushed into any decision you are not ready to make.

I know this is hard.  As I said, I have been there myself.  You do what YOU need to do and do not be pressured.  I wish you all the best and please let us know how your doing.
