drugs and pregnancy

If someone has been using meth while they are pregnant and they are cutting back drasticly.... With the goal to completly quit what will be the outcome as far as doctor's visits, drug testing, and finally the accual birthing?  I want to make sure that they know the truth about it all!  How long must she stay sober to be certain the baby will not have it in its system when its born? How does the blood testing work while pregnant? what will it show and for how long? will they be testing for drugs regularly or is that just to create a worry and scare woman out of using? I need all the info that you can give me so i can let her know what she is up against....

I was searching online this afternoon for some info geared toward pregnancy support for women 35+ and came across this site. This is my 1st time here and this is the 1st post I came across. And forgive me for saying so, but I'm really shocked by the level of judgement and meanness that I'm reading here. I realise that this is a pretty horrific topic; pregnancy & drug addiction/use, and its not something that I like to think about either. Having said that, its a horrible reality, as Jesser99 has pointed out. I have had some past experience in the field of natural childbirth/midwifery and also drug and alcohol recovery, and my heart goes out to anyone (mother, baby or family) that must face these dreadful issues....

There is a huge amount of mis-information out there on this subject and given the emotional nature of pregnancy and child-birth, the best way to get honest, reliable feedback is through a medical professional and NOT a lay-person. Jesser99, personally I would recommend that this expectant mother, whoever she may be, go and see a doctor who specializes in toxicology. A toxicologist is pretty much the only health care professional that I would trust when it comes to an issue as serious as this. Although most ob/gyn's and cert. nurse-midwives will have some good info on the subject, they will know who to refer you to locally. You could also check your local phone book, ask at any large medical center or even find a toxicologist through organizations such as narcotics anonymous or other addiction/recovery resources. But please get on the ball and take of this NOW! There are organizations and professional people that can help, but it must be done immediatley... the dangers are just too great to waste anymore time.

I wish you all the best for your search and I hope you get the information/help/support thats needed. Good Luck.

I agree with all of you!!!!! Most of us here are really just trying to get pg and staying that way.  Shame on your "friend" for even thinkiong of herself before a child.  I feel guilty if I am even in a room if someone is smoking a cigarette!!!! And i'm not even pg...ttc though.  Who cares about how the drug testing works....all I can say is QUIT!!!!!!!

Ladies-- Is this person for real??? I mean come on.. who would actually come on here several times and post questions.. about the same thing.. and never respond? Could it be spam? If not then I would say someone has some serious issues and there should be a law against people using drugs and getting pregnant! I mean they should seriously make them get their tubes tied or something. I know some people overcome drug addiction. But there should be a thing where they should be clean for a REALLY LONNNNNNNNG time before trying to bring a baby in this world and not worry about it being addicted to drugs. My daughter has a friend that did drugs when she was pregnant, no sure what all drugs she did but her baby died at 7 weeks. I went to the hospital when he passed away and you should have seen the mom. She looked like she felt the quilt and would never release that. Maybe I am just hormonal but I just think that is so unfair for uncaring mothers to do that to their unborn baby!! Smoking is bad enough, but meth or cocaine or other drugs is realllllllllllllllly bad!

JESSER- GET AN EDUCATION ABOUT DRUGS AND IF IT IS YOUR "FRIEND" THEN TELL HER TO GET INTO REHAB NOW!! I HOPE THE BABY IS OKAY AND I ALSO HOPE THEY TAKE IT FROM HER WHEN IT'S BORN!!!!

whew.. i feel better now!

Try calling CPS and asking them. I am sure they'll have answers.

By the way, alot of people on this site are struggling really hard to get preggo and stay that way.  It's a shame that people would put their own selfish desires ahead of a little baby who cannot speak for themselves.  If you are referring to yourself talking about the drugs, Mistyblue is completely correct you need to stop taking all drugs and see a Dr. now.

UGGGGG, keep your legs closed if you can't stay off the junk.  I usually just read these posts and never respond but this sounds so ignorant that I could not help myself.
