I was very tempted to get one, but was afraid I would never put it down!
By the time I was 18 weeks the baby's movements were regular enough that I could rely on that to know he was ok.
I have one to. i hired it. I got it when i was 10weeks and freaked out beacuse i couldnt find Heartbeat but my sis tryed and found one. i couldnt hear one till just over 11weeks. My midwifes one is alot stonger but i also think they are great when you are worryed
Mine was sonotrax 3mhz. They make blue/white ones and orange/ white ones. Just type in fetal Doppler on eBay. They are little pocket ones (so they are called).
I also bought an Angel monitor off ebay. It was brand new but I know with the home ones usually the heart beat is not detected till at least the 2nd trimester. Another thing I did learn at hospital (coz I was in there with my daughter from 25 weeks and had my baby's heartbeat monitored every 3 hours) is that there are two beats you can pick up, one is the baby and the other is the placenta, they only sound slightly different. I thought the home monitor was great and used to love coming home and laying down and listening to the heartbeat. I thought it was worth the money.
I bought the angel monitor when I was 12 weeks. Way to early for something that small and I about made myself crazy, but heartbeat was detected at 16 weeks and I've listened to it every night since then. Bought mine on Amazon. My OB hates that I have it, especially when I can't find the HB every once in a while, but it gave me peace of mind and now it gets me through the rough days when I worry.
I have read they are safe but don't know for sure. I have one I purchased off eBay( it was new) and was able to start heating the heartbeat at 8 weeks. It took awhile to find but now that I am closing in on the 12 week mark it is really easy to locate. It really does put my mind to rest when i start to worry!
i rented one from baby beats. i first heard her heart beat at 10 weeks and i kept it until i felt her kick daily and was relaxed enough to send it back (at 22 weeks).
listening to her every night before bed was very calming for me.
i know of no studies showing any harm to regular use of doppler fetal monitoring so i was fine with it.
