Truth be told... I have been craving red wine. Im 14 weeks pregnant and did indulge in a very small glass the other night. 1/3 of the smallest wine glass was filled and I slowly sipped over 2 hrs it just I could saver the taste.  I don't necessarily agree with a drink every day but a I think a small amount every great once in awhile should be fine.

Desi,  It's the "or so" comment that causes concern.  One 5 oz glass with dinner will probably not be too bad - but when you say "or so" it sounds like you're drinking a lot more than that.

I'm a ftm (7 weeks) and a neuroscientist and there is no way I'm touching a single drop of alcohol until I've stopped breastfeeding. It's just not worth it. The poor baby will have to deal with the consequences. Oh, and I'm from Europe and women here certainly are NOT encouraged to drink alcohol during pregnancy.

Its more and more common that drs are saying its fine to have a drink on the occasion. My dr even just told me to grab a drink if I start having contractions early at my wedding. ( im getting married at 36 weeks) he said the one drink will stop or slow the contractions.

I agree with nyetom. I'm also a nurse and one glass of wine or beer will not give your baby fetal alcohol syndrome. Red wine is actually encouraged once a week if not more of course with lots of water after or during because alcohol is a diuretic. It is very common to drink in European countries. The US does not support this because many may take advantage and over due it blaming doctors or research findings that encourage one glass.

Maybe if u can just wait til the baby arrived it's always safe to wait coz it's passes the placenta. good luck & congrats :)

Before I got to know I was pregnant I had lots of drinks since I was on vacation.  So now I dont drink, just a sip now and then. I dont suggest u drink every single day but a glass of wine or beer cant harm your baby.  Too much sugat can be bad, too much salt, too much fat... as a matter of fact we should cut down all bad things, but u dont have to be neurotic about it...

You can have a small glass of red wine once a week. It will not harm your baby nor will one glass cause fetal alcohol syndrome. It is ok to have your one glass of red wine once in a blue moon. Drinking in access on the other hand is dangerous for your unborn child.

I dont think anyone should ever drink knowingly pregnant u just cant be sure (im not talking about ppl drinking before they know) ur body is not just urs anymore and drinking while bfing u can do but pumping and dumping does not get rid of the alcohol any faster u have a time frame that u cant feed baby in depending on ur alcohol intake

Fetal alcohol syndrome can happen with just one drink!  And you won't know until they're born. I'd find a different way to unwind until the baby's born.  And then if you breastfeed and drink, pump and dump afterward to protect the baby.

I drank once in my first trimester, not knowingly...I wouldnt recommend it since the first and second trimester is when the baby is developing. Now the third trimester a glass you know maybe before bed to help you sleep wouldn't hurt the baby, as long as its a red wine...just do not over do it, and if something doesn't feel right then stop of coarse.
