Yes, it is possible (not probable) to become pregnant after a tubal ligation. However, it is rare to have a viable pregnancy result. These pregnancies are almost always ectopic (implanted outside the uterus...and very often tubal...implanted in the fallopian tubes). Ectopic pregnancies can be life threatening to the mother.

If you want there to be NO chance of you getting pregnant the only answer is abstinence :) Even with surgical sterilization (tubal or vasectomy) there is a small chance of pregnancy. Of the surgical options, I strongly prefer vasectomy. WAY less risk of complications...and no increased risk of ectopic pregnancy.

Before you have a tubal, you should look into Post Tubal Syndrome...and be absolutely sure you do not want more children. I've had two friends that had Post Tubal Syndrome (I had no idea such a thing existed until I met them) and I can't count the number of women I've run into that end up wanting more children after all...

PS If you want a tubal, check with your doctors about signing consents ahead of time so that if you end up having to have a c-section they can do the tubal at the same time and save you having to recover from surgery twice.

It is absolutely possible that you are pregnant.  I had my tubal ligation (with clips) 10 years ago when i was only 27.  Two years ago I found out I was pregnant.  It ended up being an ectopic and I lost the baby.  So I had an HSG test done to see how open my tubes were.  They told me that they are completely closed.  HMMM I'm thinking that can't be possible since I WAS pregnant.  Now I pray everyday that I can conceive a healthly chld and have another successful pregnancy.  I so regret having the surgery.  I truly believe it can happen! Anything is possible with God!  Please see your doctor ASAP an ectopic pregnancy can be life threatening.  Good Luck and God Bless!
