19 weeks and HUGE

I'm 19 weeks pregnant and I was petite before pregnancy.  I've probably gained 20lbs so far, which I probably needed it, but I feel like I look GINORMOUS! lol Is it normal to have such a protruding belly this early???

I'm little too and carry huge...I'm 25wks and folk look stunned when I tell them I have 15wks left, I normally get told "oh you wont make it that long" but I've been overdue twice already so I'm not holding out much hope for an early arrival this time!!

@Ashelen thank you! You are making me blush!

What we are saying if you are underweight then yes you will need to gain more weight during your pregnancy. But if you are just petite and not underweight then you need to keep it at a healthy weight gain. Having a protruding belly doesn't mean you've gained too much weight. I was all belly with both my pregnancies. But in all cases it is best to speak to your own doctor and see what they think because everyone is different and what is OK or normal for one person might not be the same for another.

My 80 pounds was good for me. I gained 80 pounds but was only 180 when I gave birth both times. Which is an average weight for a woman about to deliver. I never got fat or had stretch marks and lost 45 pounds on delivery. I had an 8 pound baby and a 10 pound baby. First one took me 10 minutes to deliver and my 10 pound baby all of 3 minutes. My Dr told me for four years I was meant to have babies. My body was perfect for delivering big healthy babies. And he wasn't at all concerned for my weight gain. I lost all that weight and was 5 pounds lighter than my pre pregnancy weight when I got pregnant the second time. And even lighter from the start of this one. I've never got pain killers during delivery and had my babies drug free and naturally. It really depends on the woman. I didn't eat junk food. I ate healthy. I'm sick now and hardly eat and am on diclectin and I've still put on 6 pounds at only 8 weeks pregnant from taking my vitamins. My body gains weight that I desperately need on its own. 114 lbs at almost 5'9". I need it.

I was huge with my first pregnancy ! I started out at 118 and I was gaining weight really quick :) this time weight gain is slower, but the belly is getting bigger and bigger everyday :)

Btw belly size isn't usually related to weight gain.. I rarely gain weight while pregnant because I'm too sick to eat,  but my bell always gets huge
By the end I have bony wrists and hips but look like a walking pair of boobs and belly,  lol.

I agree with Alaysha.  While an underweight woman should gain more than a woman of "normal" weight,  80lbs is neither safe nor advisable.  I've known several women who gained that much and many of them ended up with cesaerean sections.  While some pregnancies with that much weight gain will turn out just fine, it does raise the risk factors for pregnancy complications significantly.  This is the time in your life more than ever that you should be eating healthy and exercising regularly.  Expect to gain weight ; that is healthy and necessary for most women, but if the gain happens too quickly you MUST Work with your OB to ensure that you are as healthy as possible.

I would really listen to Alaysha's advice personally.. She's a model and one of the most stunning pregnant women I've ever seen,  so I'd follow her rules for healthy weight gain personally lol.

I'd ask your doctor if you are worried. I was 98lbs before both my pregnancies and never gained more than 35-40 lbs and when I was putting on weight too fast the doctor had me change my diet. If you are naturally petite and not underweight it can make a difference.

Ur definitely not the only one. Lol. Us small women tend to put on more weight or even double the recommended weight gain. Lol. And that baby has nowhere to go but out. Lol

If Ur small. Yup. I have the same problem. Someone told me I look like Im 4 months along even tho I am only 8 weeks. Tho I measure a month ahead. I gained 80 pounds with my last two babies. A underweight woman has to gain not only her pregnancy weight. But she also has to gain the weight shes missing. I've already gained 6 pounds in two months. Lol. And Im in maternity clothes already. Im only 114 pounds now. I'm willing to bet I gain almost 70-80 pounds again with this one. Lol
