2 Cord Vessel

Hello!! I just found out today that I was having another baby BOY!!! However, my doctor informed me that the umbilical cord was only 2 vessel!  She said that usually that means they might not have both kidneys, etc.  However, my little man had both kidneys & even urine in his bladder which means his kidneys are functioning properly!  She said at my next appt (Feb 2nd) they will do another sonogram to make sure everything is okay.  She said right now everything looks fine.  Well when I came back to work & searched the internet it acts like this is WAY more serious!  Anyone know anyone that had this & how was their baby?? Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!

Thank you all for responding! The internet can make you get REALLY depressed.  But I know I just need to trust my doctor & at least I will get more sonograms to see my little man more! Thanks again!! Glad your babies were healthy too!

the dr told me that it would make my son be born small. he was 8lbs. He was perfectly fine. My cousins baby had it as well. He was almost 9lbs. I was told that one vessel takes nutrients in and the other two take out waste.  if they have only 2 one takes in n utrients and one take out waste. My son however did have a lot of issues with bowel movements when he was a newborn. very constipated, my cousins baby did as well. I'm not sure if it had anything to do with it though.  hope this helps

My daughter has the same thing.  I am 26 weeks 3 days now.  I just had my second u/s and she is still perfect.  The Dr. said the same thing to me when I had my first u/s at 20 weeks, that there really isn't much to worry about since she looked completly normal... Then I went home and got on the internet and started freaking out... It can be a serious issue if you baby has other problems, how did your quad screen come back?  The things that you will need to do with this pregnancy is just me monitored a lot more, which means you'll get more u/s and around 32 weeks you'll probably go in weekly for nonstress tests and they probably won't let you go over 40 weeks.  Other things that I have come to accept is that the baby might be born a little early, maybe arond 37 weeks or so and I might have to have a c section, but i she comes out healthy I really don't care.

Bottom line, if there doesn't seem to be anything else wrong with your baby, tests are all normal they you should try not to worry, he'll be fine.  I know easier said then done, LOL.  You'll just get to see your baby more on u/s and hear his heartbeat a lot more.  Good Luck!

My friends baby had that - only he DID only have one kidney. He's PERFECTLY normal - usually in cases like that, the one that there is, is larger to help function better. She was also told that this is a very common thing, and absolutely nothing to worry about! Good luck! :]
