A visitor..? (OT)

I think God has a really weird sense of humor. Let me back up a bit...

On Thursday we had to give our dog up, for many reasons. She's well-behaved and well-loved but 1). She had Parvo and we spent a lot of money getting her better and had no money left over to get her immunizations and spay, 2). She had a huge tail and would constantly smack our children in the face with it (OUCH OUCH OUCH). We are confident that she's found a new home and has the shots and spay she desperately needed (requirement before someone can adopt her). 3). I was really stressed out with a large dog (I don't mind small animals) and all the messes and hair she'd accumulate.

So last night hubby and I are up late watching Stargate Atlantis. We pause it a moment to get up and get some water. There's a door leading to our backyard and my husband says, all of a sudden, "Did you hear that? Is that MEOWING?" (He's NOT a cat person; I AM).

So of course, being a cat lover, I go to open the door and find this adolescent male kitty crying and very malnurished. I do what any mother would do--- nurture him. I got him a little bowl of milk and some deli meat (BAD I know, but it was all I had as we don't have pets anymore).

The icing on the cake--- I scoop him up and cuddle on the couch with him and he wants down. When I put him down I notice he walks funny. His LEG IS BROKEN. This poor malnurished baby has a broken leg. We have apartments next door and my only thought is that someone threw him off a balcony and he managed to see our light on and somehow got through our privacy fence.

So............ I stay up until 3 am deciding what to do. I finally decide to let him sleep with me (much to hubby's disapproval--- though I CAUGHT HIM petting the cat and talking softly to him) and I'm up all night trying to not roll over on his bad leg. So I'm very tired today.

My whole point---- God just must think it's funny to bring us yet ANOTHER animal after we get rid of one. This has happened before and we're flabbergasted. So far no vet has called me back either.

I am also an animal lover...if it weren't for my mother we would have a billion animals. As it is I have 6 dogs, 2 cats, 2 rats, and a sugar glider...we only had 5 dogs then my pekingese decided to get the toy fox terrier pregnant and we had to keep just one! so we did. One of my cats is a siamese/tabby mix, she's so cute and skinny like that one you have. But shes got the normal colors and fur of a tabby. My other cat is a calico...she's a stray that was found in the warehouse at my work about 5 years ago...and I wanted a kittne back then so my mom brought her home for me while I was away with a friend! She's my cat, but I'm now allergic to her and my throat swells like I have her fur in my throat so I don't play with her as much anymore, but she thinks she's a dog anyways. My rats (Claudio and Tybolt) were spur of the moment...I got Tybolt and thought he was lonely so I got Claudio!

I say try and keep the lil guy! It was obviously meant to be Joy! He chose you guys for a reason...If it gets to be too much for you guys, don't feel guilty if you must let him go...but I think it was fate girl! Cats are easy anyways...

jesslee, you were right about your "splint" remedy. The vet *FINALLY* called back and said x-rays and everything would add up to about $200 or more (OUCH) and so I asked what we could do since it's not even our cat. They told us to splint it. The only problem is that the leg wouldn't be "reset". Would that be a problem?!

sweetangel, if you lived nearby I'd gladly give him to you! Still waiting for Daniel to get home to talk about this.

I called him 5 minutes ago and said, "What about the name Beckett?" and he didn't think my teasing him was very funny.

MsGorgeous--- I didn't even think of the dollar store! I even had a dollar store "review" blog (where I review dollar items). DUH! I'm having a moment today... I blame it on sleep deprivation.

Lance, WOW! LOL! That's all I can say... I had a tuxedo cat once. They're so cute! I've also had a "tiger" and a tabby cat, too. I love cats but I don't think my husband will let me keep him.

He was also following me around, meowing pathetically. If I leave a room, he follows. When we were doing school earlier (I homeschool) I shut the class door and he laid out there with one paw sticking under the door. I laughed and let him in. He just curled up and fell asleep (that's the picture up above; sleeping on the classroom floor).

Aww....this kitty chose you and your family! I think it is adorable! I am a pet person big time, and I have a heart bigger than my house can manage!!
Before we moved, my husband had one cat! Back before we were married, his brother found a kitten on the side of the road, had mites and fleas so bad I am suprised it was alive. Hubbys grandma said we could keep it at the house. Just before we were about to move, this stray cat that was always around looked much skinnier than normal and she was sitting in the driveway. I got out of my car, just getting home from work and she kept meowing at me...and when i walked to the house, she kept coming to me and then walking away. I eventually followed her and she brought me to her KITTENS! She had had kittens in the garage on a shelf and must have known that she couldnt take care of them. So, when we moved, we took my hubbys cat, the found cat from my brother in law, and this mother and her 4 adorable kittens. I figured i would put the mom and kittens in our spare room at the new place until they were old enough to be adopted. She was a tiger, and out of the litter there was a blk/wht tuxedo, a pure black, a fluffy tiger and a siamese! We kept 2 kittens (i loved one, hubby loved the other) and my mom took one and we brought the mother and other kitten to the shelter (in which they both got adopted bc she was still young!). needless to say, we also have 2 dogs. A Shep mix and a Black labrador. So, 4 cats and 2 dogs later, I say you shoudl keep the little kitty!!!

He's such a doll and sweetheart! One place finally got back with me, just to say that they don't deal with broken bones/sprains (just spay/neuter and adoption). So I'm waiting on our former vet clinic to call me back. Must be a busy day!

What's even crazier about this cat showing up is that he showed up right before this HUGE thunderstorm rolled in. I slept so lightly, so as not to crush him, and could hear thunder all night and rain pounding the windows. I thought how good it was we found him before that happened or he'd be WET, COLD, and in pain.

Jess, thanks for the "redneck" vet tip! I was able to put an IV needle in my dog's neck when she had parvo so I'm pretty sure I've got the guts to try to do that... maybe... !!!

ok sooo, here I AM THE REDNECK VET lol....have any old spatulas or wooden spoons? if you can measure him to cut one the length of the hurt leg....then take some tape(duct tape, packing tape, pref. painters tape), and while holding the spatula to his leg, wrap it....yea it's totally ghetto and country lol, but it'll help him apply more weight, if his leg already has that "stick" to it.....i say keep him also.....he came to you looking for help, just tell DH you can't turn away a sick animal(yes you had to get rid of the dog, but there was true sickness involved, not easily fixable injury!).....

when i got jekyll and hide(twin black kittens), chris was offshore, and his 1st words were "they better not be sleeping in my bed"....well, they didn't sleep in the bed, but the 1st night or 2....now, he's always like "why can't hyde sleeeep with usssss?" like a whiney lil baby lol.....the puppy sleeps with us, and those 2 like to play, and i already have a 8 or 10 pound puppy who can kick me out of the bed, do i really need the cat adding to it??? b/c they both have to sleep in the same spot:::under my belly, or on my shoulder.....

Oh he does look siamese. His face is very lean and his jaw and cheekbones very defined. But his fur is definitely longer than a siamese.

Shadow Serpent!!! You're gonna get me in trouble with the husband... Ha ha! I do have a desire to keep the cat but at the same time I know it probably won't happen. I, too, hope it's only a sprain. He's been putting a little weight on it today. But his hip looks like it's out of socket.

Anyway, I hate dogs. I've always had cats. And my hubby is the opposite. I just don't know! We'll have to see. DH and I didn't get a chance to really talk about it since it was so late (I think we found him at 1am--- we're night owls).

Aw, this he's soo cute. I am an animal lover as well as my family so I can't turn anything away. We have 4 dogs (1 we bought and 3 that he brought home to us to take care of) and 2 cats (my DH's before we were together and the one I found on the side of the road in a box full of his dead siblings ***GRRR! I had to bottle feed him he wa so young***). Plus we can't forget Art my daughters lizard, and she has 2 little neon fish too. DH has a fish tank with 3 fish in it. It's a good thing we live in the country on five acres or we would have to move to accomodate all the animals we have. Currently, my daughter is vying for a small dog (all four of the ones we have are over 80 lbs) and/or a horse. Neither of which is doable at the moment so only if God decides to send us one free of charge will that happen anytime soon.

Oh I don't think we're going to keep it. Even though I'm tempted we just never ever have good luck with animals. I'm fighting to even name him. He has ice blue eyes like the actor Ben Browder so I thought about naming him after his character on Stargate (Cameron). *SIGH* I'm so pathetic...

Oh wow Joy.. Well Im glad that you did the nice thing and took the kitty in.. When I was living with Travis and his parents there was a stray black kitty that would come on the back porch of their house and I always played with it and cuddled it, but I couldn't keep it in the house because Travis's parents wouldn't have approved.. So I felt really bad but I think the cat also had an owner and was just a "farm cat" because he had a collar, but he just liked to come socialize I guess..

Well good luck with the new kitty and whatever you decide to do! do you think you will be keeping it??
