Abscessed tooth - 35w4d

I don't know how much longer I will be able to hold out with this abscsessed wisdom tooth. It's starting to cause pain and talking antibiotics right now would just make me miserable. I get the nasty side effects of diarrhea every time I've taken them before. I had an abscessed tooth this same time last year. Which almost killed me by 3 days. I'm already having lots of loose stools and will go to the bathroom at least 4-7 times daily. I also have a tooth in the front that cracked on me and now have a hole between two teeth. Which also doesn't help. I have something that causes brittle teeth. My grandparents & mom have it as well.

Anyway, I'm scared of getting dental work while pregnant. Though my doctor told me it's fine as long as I don't get the gas or get put under. I can handle the shots for the front of my mouth. No biggy. But my wisdom tooth would have to be cut out because only some/half of it has come in and is feeling inflamed and hurts. Starting to give headaches & mouth aches. It's been sitting like that for over a year. I know this may sound like a stupid question but I will ask anyway.....

Have doctors ever scheduled to induce a woman if she's had an abscessed tooth? I don't want to wait until I get so infected or swollen before it comes out. I literally was 3 days away from dying. Had I of waited, I wouldn't of been here:( it's scary to think about.

I didnt read all the above posts. I had a tooth break with a huge cavity in it when I was 35 weeks. I got two teeth pulled. I would call your OB and see what they reccomend.

i had a tooth pulled out a week ago, it really isnt that bad (this coming from a girl who is terrified of going to the dentist) also i had work done when i was pregnant with my son who is a healthy 4 year old. go get it fixed. even a few hours of being uncomfortable are worth the relief. just dont use the gas. good luck and take care of yourself. you def want to get it done asap and you dont want to be nursing a sore tooth and possible healing and a newborn.

A couple of things to think about....

tooth problems during pregnancy can be bad. REALLY bad.

You probably won't be induced...they will probably put you on antibiotics. I had surgery at 34w5d and I was put COMPLETELY under general anesthesia...so I know, from experience, that a surgery requiring twilight or novacaine is generally considered safe if there's a serious problem.

you need to call the doctor or dentist TOMORROW....an infection in your gums/teeth can actually cause an infection and heart problems with you and/or the baby...i know it sounds crazy but I'm sure you've heard before that tooth health is very important during pregnancy - that's why.

so you need to get on antibiotics, stat, and get a plan for what to do...like i said they probably won't induce, might remove the tooth which is pretty safe at this point - at worst they might give you some pain meds, antibiotics, and yank it right after  baby's born...and yes pain meds are perfectly safe at this point - you wouldn't be taking them long enough to get baby addicted.

Please please don't wait to call the doc...tooth infection = needs attention NOW during pregnancy.

good luck...and don't worry, they'll be able to take care of it for you :-)

You could talk to them about it but you are not full term at this point.. and I think they would probably prefer you do the antibotics at this time..

They would probably be wanting to monitor you either way for hte onset of infection...  they might just remove the abscessed tooth and leave the wisdom teeth for a couple weeks down the road...  Maybe see what your options are
