Advice for my Glucose Test Please!!

I have my Glucose test wednesday morning and Im worried about it! I hate needles so I really really need to pass this so I dont have to do the longer one. My mom told me to cut sugar out of my diet a little before I do it. What else should I do to improve my odds of passing. Are carbs ok or are they going to be the same as sugar in terms of me failing?!?!? Help!!! how do I pass this thing?!?!

I agree with SweetAngel, don't try to change the results, you need to know things as important as GD - it's really NOT that bad, and it's important for you and your baby, especially since every mother wants their baby to be as healthy as it can be.

Aside from not eating anything sugary (candy, cake, pop), I was told to eat normally for my one hour test.  My results were just slightly higher than their cut off point, so I had to go for the 3 hour test and had to fast after 12 midnight.  I passed that one just fine.

I know you hate needles and would hate to have to go for the 3 hour test, but I think you should eat like you normally would and just cut out anything overtly sugary.  If you do have GD, it would be better to catch it early while eating normally than to fast and screw up the results.  Talk to your doctor's office and find out their instructions for your 1 hour test.

Well I didn't even have the option of the 1 hour test, I am just automatically having the 3 hour one... don't know why though.  I can\t eat anything after 12 at night, so I would say possibly don't eat anything sweet before you have it, but I wouldn't know.  The 3 hour one isn't bad though I had it with my last pregnancy and then at least you know by the end of it!

Seriously, you need to eat normal the entire day...if you have gd you NEED to know.  It does sound like you are trying to sway the results and that could be dangerous.  The best advice I was given was by a woman with gd and she told me to eat normal!  The day of my test I ate a normal lunch (with carbs!) and even a snack before the test.

Good luck...and the needle isn't that bad...this is for your baby!

When I had my first 2 kids(in 2001 and 2005)  I was told to fast for the one hour test.  I believe I fasted for 8 hours.  Itook the one hour test and passed.  With my last pregnancy(2008), I was told I didnt need to fast(they must have changed the rules), but I still did anyway.  I failed the test and took the three hour test and DID have gestational diabtets.  If you would rather fast, I would just take the the one hour test in the morning.  Go to bed, sleep wake up and go to the lab before you eat.  I am sure this wont guarantee reults one way or another, but it  might help with the concerns of food interacting.

Actually I want to specify. Im not trying to cheat the test. I have known people who didnt end up having diabetes but they failed the first test but then had to take the second one and they passed that. I would just hate to not have diabetes but have to do the three hour test for no reason just because I ate something that screwed up the first test. Any advice would be great!!!
