I was told that Zofran is safe. I have been taking it since Christmas Day. and it works miracles for me. but im pretty sure its completely safe or else they wouldn't be prescribing it to me (high risk pregnancy)
I used it my first pregnancy and my daughter turned out fine. This pregnancy they weren't as giving for it because I guess tests going on or something. But I had no appetite because everytime I ate I would be so nauseas and couldn't drink water even. Then would just throw up stomach acid.
It is a class b drug. They don't know for sure that there are no side effects to the baby but if you are puking and getting dehydrated that's bad for baby so they will use it. Its not meant for if you feel a little queesy.
I took zofran well into my second trimester because I was so sick, my baby girl came out perfectly healthy! I've never heard of it causing defects...if it did I don't think it would be the goto medication that they prescribe to pregnant ladies for nausea.
Thanks for the comments. My daughter in law is 27 weeks and she has been taking Zofran the whole time. Someone sent her an article from 2012 saying it could cause cleft lip or palate. She now is very anxious and says she will just have to be sick now because she isn't going to take it anymore.
As far as I know its been deemed safe for pregnancy. I had to be put on a zofran pump because I was so nauseous and vomited literally all the time. It got so bad I tore my esophagus a few times, and had to be in the hospital for fluids. That pump saved my life. I'm off it now, but still take the oral zofran as I need it. All my ultrasounds have shown that baby is perfect, and I did some hefty research before going on the pump, and couldn't find anything that said it caused defects.
