Coloscopy and Pregnacy... HELP

I was 5 weeks pregnant when I found out I was finally after 5years of trying, pregnant! Bad news, I was scheduled for a coloscopy and biopsy that week. I called my doctor repeatedly and spoke to the nurses. I wanted an ultra sound done,  not the coloscopy and biopsy. I went in with my husband and we thought we were going to see our child for the first time at exactly 7 weeks. I could easily be off a day or two on how far along I was. I kept track in my phone and knew when I conceived.
Anyways, I go into my doctors and I ask her about many concerns I had like could something be wrong due to my abnormal pap I had and am I having a ultra sound. Well, at only 6 week and 6 days, possibly 7 weeks, she did the coloscopy. On my paperwork it says I had intense counselling, consented and the procedure was done all in 20 mins. All I remember was how scared my husband and I were. She said the word miscarriage SO many times and scared us to death. Why would she make me bled for nearly a week when I could't even get a massage done due to being in my first trimester. Well, I healed and everything seemed OK, but it wasn't. We came into hear our baby's heart beat and see it at 11 weeks due to a scheduling mishap in the office. Who makes their patient wait a month to see if she has cancer?

I had my ultra sound done and there are four large tv screens laid a baby that had been dead without a heartbeat for 4 weeks. The paperwork on my record says it was 6 weeks 5 days. Right when I had my colopo.

Has anyone had this happen to them? I had a D and C miscarriage and that is because the meds didn't work she gave me.

Please help..............

I have to agree with Ashelen on this.  The colposcopy isn't giong to cause a miscarriage.  At most it might damage the cervix and cause problems further down the road, but I don't think it would be immediate.

It sounds to me like this was just a coincidence in the timing of two things.  Most likely you had miscarried already or were going to miscarry anyway, when those two procedures were done.

Miscarriage is far more common than many people thing.   I hope you get your BFP soon and that all is well with your abnormal pap.

Colposcopy is what she  means....it's a diagnostic tool used to closely examine the cervix and uterus.

I do agree that biopsies are not usually done during pregnancy because it can risk damaging the cervix, but if they strongly suspected cancer they may have felt like they had no option.

I'm very sorry that you had this loss...I know how heartbreaking it is, having miscarried before. However...I've been thinking for days about your story and I just don't see how the heart could stop beating simply because of the biopsy, you know? I think it was just a sad, unfortunate, coincidence...MANY miscarriages occur right around that time, so it could just be bad timing.

Best of luck to you and I hope you find healing and peace.

colonoscopy involves your colon/rectum/ anus. colcoscopy is your cervix neck. i had one done at 12 weeks but everything went fine. They are usually recommended to wait until 12 weeks. As far as I knew biopsy's are meant to be fine too  best of luck to you

I am sorry to heard that .I have stomach ulcer and I have to do Colonoscopy and Endoscopy but because I am pregnant at this moment they can not any of them , the earliest time that they can do it in my late Third Trimester , if they do it even at that time. Ur doctor should knew to not do any  Colonoscopy at that time it is their fault , I would fight it ,  and I hope u get ur bfp really soon , best of luck to u

Colonoscopys are safe during pregnancy. Biopsys are not. During a colonoscopy they just spray vinager on your cervix and look to see if there are abnormal cells. I had one done at the beginning of my pregnancy and everything was fine. A biopsy however is where they take a tissue sample to test it and should not be performed during pregnancy.
