Fetal Medicine Unit...

So, iv been referred to the fetal medicine unit. Not entirely sure why. Im 15weeks pregnant. Was told that iv got a b12 defiency and that my blood results showed high risk of my baby having down syndrome. However the scan results showed my baby not having down syndrome. Has anyone else been referred to this unit and their baby been fine? If my baby was to be born with downs then id love him/her just as much as i do my other children. Just wanted to know if there was any other mummies in the same situation as me?

I was referred to fetal medicine as I was told my baby had a micrognathia jaw (small jaw) and so we had an experienced sonographer do another ultrasound. But nope, all good. He has a perfectly shaped jaw and all is well. :)
Good luck.

A maternal fetal medicine doctor (Perinatologist) is a specialist for the baby in utero. He will be able to preform a more detailed ultrasound and assess your risk of Down syndrome. He may suggest having an Amnio which tests the fluid in the gestation sac instead of the blood test you had which are not as accurate as the Amnio. Hopefully you will have a better idea what to expect after seeing your Perinatologist. Best wishes
