First pregnancy and a marijuana smoker

I have meniere's disease, which is a balance disorder and causes random bouts of nausea and vertigo I am prescribed promethazine pills every 4/6 hours..they cause heavy sleep and fatigue so I self medicate with marijuana through the day. I just found out I am pregnant. 6 weeks along and I believe they may have tested me for drugs in my blood labs though they didn't mention it. I had been taking promethazine also before I found it I was pregnant. I know I have to quit smoking for the sake of my baby but will I already be in trouble with dcf for smoking if I'm clean at the time of birth? I ask because I know it won't be easy to quit..it'll take at least two full weeks to completely quit, as I've been a daily smoker since 15, I'm scared I'm gonna collapse in public with an on set if meniere's once I'm drug free. I need HELP, please . I don't want to have my first baby taken away.

Its illegal to for anyone to drug test you without your knowledge or consent. If they are going to test you they have to inform you. They won't drug test you unless you give them a reason to, like admitting to smoking pot ect.

In your situation...i dont know how safe promethesine is to take during pregnancy , as pharmacuticals are pretty much mysteries in a pill, if i were you id compare both risks. If marijuana makes you feel better and at ease then do it for as long as you can. Especially under your condition. I would also research your prescription!

There are no known risks from smoking weed while pregnant. Any type of smoke reduces your babys oxygen

^^ ive heard this from many marijuana supporters who are pregnant. I support legalization, but to say that if you do smoke & you know it reduces babys oxygen but it will be "fine" is ridiculous and immature. Idgaf if there are no apparant birth defects. To say this as a soon to be mother is horrible.

its better to take what the dr prescribes you while you are pregnant because why risk them taking your baby away for something so easy preventable? I say deal with the fatigue till baby is here and if thc helps you then go for it but Dont smoke anything while pregnant. it can starve placenta of oxygen. smoking anything will do that. its not necessarily the weed thats bad. its the smoke.

Also I live in south Florida, where the hard drugs reign..so I feel as though marijuana is only class 1 I believe, and they focus more on pills, and cocaine use etc..I could very well be soo wrong but with the rise of these drugs..Molly and ecstasy why should weed be a major deal..right?

Thank you ladies, I do use tobacco products to smoke and that may be the addictive part of it, I will reduce my smoking to just a pipe so no tobacco effects will reach my embryo. I most definitely plan to quit by the time this trimester is over So I will be clean at birth. I can't see taking promethazine while pregnant as I may just sleep the whole day and night away and gain excess lbs..no thank you.

Cigarette smoke contains more than 4,000 chemicals, including truly nasty things like cyanide, lead, and at least 60 cancer-causing compounds. When you smoke during pregnancy, that toxic brew gets into your bloodstream, your baby's only source of oxygen and nutrients.

The most serious complications — including stillbirth, premature delivery, and low birth weight — can be chalked up to the fact that nicotine and carbon monoxide work together to reduce your baby's supply of oxygen. Nicotine chokes off oxygen by narrowing blood vessels throughout your body, including the ones in the umbilical cord. It's a little like forcing your baby to breathe through a narrow straw. To make matters worse, the red blood cells that carry oxygen start to pick up molecules of carbon monoxide instead. Suddenly, that narrow straw doesn't even hold as much oxygen as it should.
Smoking during pregnancy can have lifelong effects on your baby's brain. Children of pregnant smokers are especially likely to have learning disorders, behavioral problems, and relatively low IQs.

Sometimes during pregnancy disorders like that either get worse or they go away. Hopefully yours will go away! Quiting smoking pot isn't hard at all it doesn't have nicotine so it's not addictive. I quit when me and my husband started trying and it was cake and I smoked everyday.

I know people are gonna talk ****, but to me its a plant and a medicine and people who say that is has negative effects on u and ur baby havent done the research. The only thing bad for the baby is the lackof oxygen when ur inhaling smoke, and i know a lot of ppl who smoked cigs through their entire pregnancy and i know ppl who smoked weed their entire pregnancy. I dont know any weed smokers who,had an unhealthy baby. Ive smoked through my entire pregnancy and im,quitting only incase they drug test me at birth. Ive heard if u quit at or before 36 weeks u should be okay, unless u go into labor early. But do be aware if they do test u and u fail they can and will take your baby.

Honestly I'd just talk to your doctor about it. I was a heavy pot smoker before I got pregnant I quit right away it didn't take two weeks. Your doctor is probably your best bet to go to for advice on this. I don't think anyone on here will be able to give you good advice but then again, I can't speak for everyone.

They will drug test you now. But as long as you and baby test clean at delivery, they wont take your baby.
