Genetic Disorders

My friend has been dating someone for a while, they just found out they are expecting and also found out they are like 5-6th cousins.  Is this okay and can the baby have genetic defects because of this?

I agree, There isn't much of any risk. It's actually legal for them to marry I believe. It's definitely understandable esp. if they didn't know they were related at all.

As long as they aren't first cousins or brother/sister it's not a big deal. Genetically there is enough difference at that level that their risks aren't increased anymore then anyone else.  If they are worried they can do prenatal screening.
