I don't remember my last period

I don't remember my last period and I haven't had an ultra sound how will I know how far I am in my pregnancy? In December of 2012 I had a miscarriage just before Christmas heavy heavy bleeding and I just don't recall my MP in jan. and I tested positive this month for pregnancy, and also I'm terrified because I didn't know I was pregnant and I took ibuprofen and NyQuil earlier this month FEB. 2013 I took ibuprofen only like 3-4 times and NyQuil only 2 times not at the same time for swelling because I just got a piercing and I also took acetaminophen but I heard that its safe for pregnancy but not ibuprofen or NyQuil .. Will my baby have birth defects??

Thank you so much.. Your words are very helpful,,but yes it was confirmed as a miscarriage in dec. :( and I don't remember having a period in jan because me and my husband were moving at the time and packing so I completely lost track.. And I have a ultrasound this up coming Monday . And yes my hcg levels dropped when they ran blood tests and they did an ultra sound and found an empty sack.. And I never really felt nauseas or any pregnancy symptoms the first time but not I'm nauseated can't stand certain smells and am throwing up ..,,well not often but I had morning sickness this morning this would be my third pregnancy counting the miscarriage and my daughter that I have.. So hopefully everything goes well.

Regarding your last question, talk to the doctor about the ibuprophen and the NyQuil, or go to the website of each and look in the FAQs, or google "ibuprophen in early pregnancy" and "NyQuil in early pregnancy."

Regarding when you got pregnant -- do you think you had a period between December just before Christmas, and now?  Which leads to, are you sure the heavy bleeding in December was a miscarriage?  Was it confirmed by a doctor with an hCG count that dropped to near 0?  It's possible to have bleeding during pregnancy; I'm wondering if what you have now is a second pregnancy or the original pregnancy.

To try to get your arms around how far along this pregnancy is, go to your ob-gyn and get two beta hCG tests 48 hours apart.  There is not a plain correlation between hCG levels and how far along you are -- the range of "normal" hCG for various gestational ages is very wide.  But certainly (and at the least) you would get the information about whether your hCG is doubling normally, and if the numbers are very, very high, it would also suggest you didn't lose the pregnancy in December.  Even if you are sure that did happen by having had an hCG test at the time, you might be able to get a rough idea of how far along you are now, and can decide when to have an ultrasound.
