I need a mommy's perspective, not agreeing with doctor..

My son is 6 weeks old, about a week ago he started acting like he has a small cold, gagging a lot, coughing sneezing, wouldn't eat.. Ect. He got extremely bad to where he couldn't breate... So we drove an hour to he nearest ER that had a neonatal unit just incase something bad was going on. We got no help, a rude dr that told us he was perfectly healthy, no tests run on him, no blood drawn and sent usin our way in maybe 10 minute max. The next day I took him to his pediatrician. He said it was a common cold, nothing serious, that he would be fine. That night he got worse AGAIN.. Turning blue from by being able to breathe, I haa to sit in a recliner and hole him straight up and down in my lap all night long just do he could breathe. I use the bulb sucker(booger sucker) :) saline drops, cool mist humidifier after the warm mist one didn't help, baby Vicks... Standing in the bathroom so he could get the steam.. Nothing worked. The next day he was still horrible, so I called the pediatrician and he said to take him to his local ER. We did and were in there seven hours. By the end of it, Turner was feeling better, his color was back, he was a little stuffy but not much at all. He was resting good and seemed fine. The tests and X-rays came back absolutely fine but they kept us overnight for observation. They all acted as if we were first time parents who were just freaking out and making it up.. Except the pedicatrician, he actually believed us, they next morning they released us saying nothin was wrong, must of been a virus. I asked him if It could possibly be something in out home triggering this bc we live in a very older home and have gas hear also.. He said absolutely not. That he was too small for allergies. When we left the hospital turner was smiling and cooing like he was 100% better. We get home and this mornig he is back stopped up, crying, gagging, wont eat and lathargic. I'm so sorry for such a long message but I'm really worried and need mommy advice! I KNOW something is wrong with my baby, and it has to be something in this house. Has anyone experienced this? What is your input? We left the gas heat off last night hoping it would help but didn't. Please give me mommy advice! Doctors aren't listening to what I'm telling them! I'm packing up and headed to my parents this afternoon just incase.

Thank you! I have been in tears for four days bc I couldn't get anyone but my husband to understand just how sick this baby was gettin while we were at home. He is sleeping so well right now and seems fine now that we are at my parents. Looks like we will be moving soon! Thank you all for your advice and helping me pin point this. Y'all are better than doctors;) hehe! Is there anything I should be concerned about with this mold? It's obviously not down in his lungs since X-rays came back fine.. So I guess I caught it early. Will moving be the only thing I need to do or do I need him on medication or to do anything special?

Good for you for listening to yourself.  As a mother always listen to your instincts. New mom or not noone knows YOUR baby better than you.

We had black mold in one of our bathrooms too. We learned that black mold isn't effected by bleach. Our rental agency told us to use distilled white vinegar or lysol. If there is a lot, personally, I would just move. Good luck though. Nothing scarier than a sick infant! And good job sticking to that mommy instinct.

^ I agree, report them then!! Poor little guy and I'd be talking to someone about the doctor ignoring your concerns, I HATE it when doctors do that, treat you like you're oblivious, it's so annoying!! Hope he feels better!

You can report the owners to the health dept if they won't do anything about it as well. Good luck!

We will just have to move since the landlords won't fix it. We offered to buy new flooring and replace it ourselves and they said no lol I've never heard of anyone not wanting their property improved for free but they didn't! So I know they would never treat the mold. I have been at my parents for about 7 hours now and my little man is just fine! So it HAS to be something in the home. It's so upsetting. My poor little man!

I had my basement flood and mildew started growing. The only way to fully get rid of it is to strip everything. Drywall, carpets, even the studs had to be replaced. That was just mildew so if its another type of mold I wouldn't be surprised if you have to do the same thing. If you're not under a lease I would move cause its easier on you. Also mold is a health risk and landlords have to fix it in a timely manner or you could sue them for hospital bills.

U could try cleaning the mold with bleach. It kills it sometimes. It is most likely caused from the mold though if not it could be dust who knows with babies my daughter got that problem and they put her on breathing treatments. Not to long ago she had an asthma attack so that may be the problem also...hope the little one feels better soon.

We moved.. our son has other medical issues.
The mold caused them to be worse and he ended up in the hospital. But the best thing to do is move out of the house. Go stay at your parents and see how he does. Good luck. Ps feel free to ask any questions.

Ok thank you! The only ones I found at lowes or Walmart have to be sent off. I'm not under a lease so if I find out it is definitely something in this house, which I've already been thinkin it is, then we are packin up. My poor little boy. It just makes me cry knowing that its something in MY house hurting him

Just last winter I found that the small house I was renting had been making me ill. I, like your child, was struggling to breath. My boyfriend however went completely unaffected. There r sites on the net that sell mold testing kits.

I looked it up, I noticed black looking spot in the bathroom, the landlord thought it was a good idea to have wallpaper in there.. And these spots are all behind  and around the tops of the shower. I clean the shower with bleach regularly (I'm a germ/clean freak) but the wallpaper I thought was just old. It looks the same as the black mold on the Internet. Bingo! Thank you so much. What did they do for your little one? Anything I need to do besides move??

Gas wouldn't cause that, but mold would. Go to your parents, spend the night and see how he does. In the mean time start looking for mold. I'm 99% positive that's what's causing him to be ill....but he could also have a cold on top of it. And the mold is causing his minor cold to be worse. I know this from personal experience, our rental earlier this year had mold. My youngest son was extremely ill.

Very strong possibility. That has been worrying me too. It is a rental house and kept up by a very old couple that won't improve anything on it.. We have done lots of work ourselves just bc I refused to let live in it and not have certain things fixed. Then I thought that if it was mold, would it have taken six weeks to effect him? And wouldn't we be having symptoms too? I need help:'( I don't know anything about the symptoms or what this could be.

Is there any possibility that your house has mold?
