I suffer from Hyperemesis...

For those who don't know what Hyperemesis is..it is a severe form of "morning sickness", where vomiting is excessive and may cause dehydration and chemical imbalances in the body. I was sent to the ER by my OB on Friday as I have not been able to keep any food or fluids down which caused me to be dehyrated. Ketones were also found in my urine test. Ketones are usually found when ur body starts breaking down your muscles and fats for fuel as I was not absorbing any of my nutrients. I was admitted and stayed in the obs unit overnight. I was on IV and was given Phenergan (anti-nausea and vomiting meds) which seemed to help while I was in the hospital. I'm at home  now resting but I'm still nauseaus after eating a meal and have thrown up once this morning already. I dont know what else to do...I feel so helpless.

I know exactly what u are going through. I had it.  I had it so bad that I had to have a picc line and be put on tpn. Which is nutrients through a bag.   I was able to slowly taper off the tpn and now I can eat and drink things.  I still vomit but not like I was.

I also had this and went to the dr and they gave me zofran it worked so great the first time I took it but not so much after. Just try 2 eat and drink anyway I threw up if I ate and drank or not and it was better 2 throw stuff up then stomache bile. I got super constapated from the zofran too but I wasn't able 2 keep much down either so it could have been from that too. Just c if u can find something that doesn't bug u that much and stick with it. I lived on frosted mini wheats and mashed potatoes for months. I started feeling better after 19 weeks but i still have 2 watch what I eat and only eat a little bit several times a day. I hope u feel better soon I know how horrible it is I wanted 2 sleep all the time just so I didn't have 2 feel so sick its like ur body thinks anything u eat or drink is poison. Wish I could help more

I have a friend that went through this. None of the anti nausea meds helped her. They ended up putting a pic line in her and she had to push 4-5 bags of fluid a day for the first half of her pregnancy but it eventually got manageable where she could keep stuff down. She did go on to have a healthy full term baby. The most important part is if you feel you are getting dehydrated go in and get fluids. You have to be your own advocate and if you don't think the Dr's are doing enough be persistent.

Make sure youre eating and drinking small amounts at a time. It ***** and is hard i know but... It will help. Also, try the BRAT diet (bananas, rice, applesauce & toast). Do not eat anything greasy, fried, & try to stay away from fatty foods.

Yes last week she prescribed me Zofran 4mg once every 8 hours. It gave me really bad constipation (4 days without bowel movement). Zofran worked for about a day or 2 and after that, it no longer did. The ER doctor put me on Phenergan 12.5 mg every 6 hours PRN....but I'm still feeling nauseaus. Nothing seems to help! :(
