Is the regular H1N1 vaccine safe for pregnant women?

I was just wondering because I went to a flu clinic today and got the H1N1 vaccine. They ask you if you're pregnant because if you are, you're supposed to get a different kind of vaccine. I said, "no, not that i know of." But then I thought to myself, what if I am and I just don't know yet? My DH and I are TTC.

i know! i mean my ob-and perinatologist said they strongly recommended and that is safe! specially since one of his ob patients got the swine flu and he gave her 20% of survival for her and the baby!  but thank god and to a miracle, her and her baby survive! they were at the hospital for almost 2-3 months away from everybody so he told me that cuz i was kind of scared to get the shot but the swine flu is soo serious specially during pregnancy plus i had got a real bad flu before when i was around 20 weeks and i thought i was going to die too i mean i had a fever of 101.1 which it woulnd go down but then they sticked this long q-tip into my nose to check if it was h1n1 but thank god it wasn't so thats why i got it and to prevent you know!

k, well i already got it so looks like it's too late for me. lol. i have a friend who works for novartis and is in the production line for making the vaccine and it's made exactly the same way as the seasonal flu shot, which i got several months ago. he said only the strain is different but all other ingredients and processes are exactly the same. i never got sick after that one so hopefully i will be good with this one. also, it's not a live virus, just a protein (only the mist is live).

i'm sure there's many risks associated with a lot of things we do. heck, talking on the cell phone can cause brain cancer. you have to weigh out the pros and cons of everything and decide what's best for you. i've gotten the flu before and i felt like i was dying so i've gotten the shot ever since.

You ar enot supposed to get the live virus of any shot during pregnancy. The mist is a live virus. Back in the 50'2 they gave woman a hot, can't rememberw hwich one it was and most of the babies came out deformed. There are NO studies done on pregnant woman or children for any shot and there ahve been NO staudies done on the H1N1 shot at all before giving it to people.

It was the fastes link I could find. I can not send a link to  my research but it is more vast then this site. Imunizations are NOT what we are told they are!!!!!
Besides the H1N1 was man made. My daughter who was born at 30 1/2 weeks had the fewest shots of any of my children. I did not know the risks till recent years. She has gotten sick the least and now my pediatrician does nto give many shots to his patients becasue of the risks. Where I live the only people who ahve gotten sick with H1N1 are the ones who have gotten the shot! Our local hospitals were to give the employess shots at week intervals at each hospital. After week one the first hospital had a 86% absentee rate for the employees, and called off the other hospitals to recieve the shot. The also posted a letter from the CDC to hospitals, health professionals and nerologists that the shot has been shown to casue nuerological problems and death. I was at the hospital when FBI came to the hospital and removed the letter as they were not to post it to the public and the administrator was fired that day. I was getting my second HCG levels drawn. Every person I know that has never gave their child any shots are healthier then anyone I know. My sister was paralised from a DPT shot for several weeks and still has problems with her mouth muscles. You can see it when she smiles. There will always be people who learn something was bad for us that they thought was good and new and better ways for things. So thes things are not safe! I have a son who has a kidney disorder and severe high blood pressure. He is being seen at Children's HOspital and the Nurphrologists said he is the first child to have been dying to not have needed a kidney transplant with in a year with the type of problem he has. They asked to do a study on him. He is on imniosupressants and once they said he needed a flu shot so we got him one. THat is the only time he has ever been sick. We nolonger give him the shot and he never even gets a cold. They continue to study how shots and such effect children with weak immune systems. Goes to show ya

Thank you! I found out last week right before thanksgiving.
It has been nerve wracking I worry about every little thing because I had a miscarriage earlier this year.  Just wanted to make sure I didn't have one more thing to worry about :)
Good luck to you when do you find out if you are or not?  ***babydust***

I think it should be Ok because I just got mine and I'm not pregnant, not that I know of. I was doing a little bit of reading on thimerosal and it eventually passes out of our systems so you should be Ok. Congrats on your pregnancy! You must have just found out recently.

I got mine a few months back not the h1n1, but the regular flu shot.  Is that OK since I was not pregnant at the time?  It is in my system for a year could this be harmful to my baby?

thickm- maybe they didn't ask because the entire stock they had was thimerosal-free so it didn't matter?

SORRY - typo.

The mist is thimerosal-free but its not recommended that pregnant women get this form of the vaccine.

Most flu shot injections contain thimerosal which should be avoided during pregnancy - pregnant women can, and should, request thimerosal-free injections which are available or the mist (also thimerosal-free).

It wouldnt matter.

The concern with the "regular" vaccine is it contains a preservative called thimerosal which is best to avoid while pregnant.  However, even if you are pregnant the placeta doesnt form toward the end of the 1st trimester so it would be a concern.
