Just took some castrol oil

Well, I wasn't going to take any but my MIL said that's how she went into labor. She had some so she put some in oj and gave it me. I was still hesitant, but I went ahead and drank it. Keep your fingers crossed. I've had really bad bh all day so I'm hoping it will work.(:

I cant even take tylonol, I am too scared even though they tell you it's safe!  I had antibiotics from the doctor awhile ago for an ear infection and it took me several days to talk myself into taking them.. then when my baby didn't move for like 5 minutes I was freaking out!  Haha!

Haha I'm the same way, I've taken tylenol one time my entire pregnancy, and tums twice, I feel terrible for some reason! :(

Agreed!  Trust your doctor!  Even if they told me to I wouldn't do it though (thats just me).  It took me many nights of suffering from acid reflex to even take a tums haha,  I could never try castor oil!

Both of my OB's (I had two different ones for each pregnancy, and actually seen 2 more out of each office) and they ALL would say no way, my sister got a new butt hole ripped for using castor oil and admitting it to her ob, haha. But if your midwife said it was safe, then it's completely up to you, of course you should trust YOUR doctor.

I have actually only hear OB's say no and to stay away from it.  I guess everyone has their own opinions!

^ Agree completely.. My sister took castor oil and it shot her son into the birth canal too quickly, he was born with the cord wrapped around his neck 3 times, and was purple, he was very, very lucky to be alive and healthy, with no effects from lack of oxygen. She had also JUST received an U/S an hour earlier, showing no cord around his neck prior, so it was definitely caused by being forced into the birth canal. I would be very careful. I've only ever heard of midwives saying to use it, I've never heard of an OB saying it's safe.

I'm not going to be one to say if it's safe or not, because I have never used it, and I never will.  I will say that some people say it wont cause the baby to poop inside  you but think about it... it's a laxative that can cause you to have diarrhea, what you put in your body goes to baby as well so I can see how it can cause baby to poop.  My sister in law took it with my nephew when she was like 38 weeks or somewhere around there, well she went into labor and had my nephew.  They had her due date wrong and she was actually like 34 weeks instead of 38 and baby had to do some time in NICU and had lung problems.  Primrose oil is a oil pill and you insert it into your vagina as close as you can get it to your cervix at night time, it helps ripen your cervix.  I see nothing wrong with primrose oil.  I am not judging anyone for using castor oil, and I hope you have baby soon.  Good luck mama!

The only way its unsafe is if you do not follow the instructions, my midwife told me it is PERFECTLY SAFE to take a tablespoon to loosen things up.

Just because its 'natural' doesnt mean its safe. It can have dire consequences for both mother and child, namely dehydration and baby's first bowel movement in the womb. It is indeed a laxative and they're well known to cause potential side effects of nausea, vomiting, diarrhea and abdominal cramping - which if not watched closely can lead to dehydration. If baby had a bowel movement in the womb this can lead to dozens of issues with the child.

Because of how it works it forces your bowels to contract, thus leading to further contractions. (Similar to an orgasm, which is also a contraction) Often though they're not strong enough and do nothing but make the female sick. It's advised by most to avoid castor oil unless your doctor directly states to use it.

No stress for the baby, it relaxes your bowels and that's what causes the contractions. Look it up if you are thinking about it. I wouldn't take anything if I had bad allergies but I'm not allergic to anything. It's not scary to me seeing how its completely natural.

I have such bad allergies, that it would scare the hell out of me taking something i never had while being pregnant. I could see if i was constantly monitored but that would scare me & doesnt it put baby in distress? Wouldnt that be y contractions would start? Scary...

It's a natural oil that is actually used as a laxative, it loosens everything up and will sometimes cause you to start contracting. It can't hurt you or your baby as long as you don't take more than it tells you too because its all natural.

It's a laxative that stimulates your bowels and can make you contract to get labor going. But there's also bad sides to it so do some research before trying it. A lot of people are very wary of it because of the negative side effects. But I'd try anything to avoid pitocin. Haha

I don't think its working, I thought it might be doing something because I was feeling a lot of pressure in my lower stomach and back. I'm still feeling it but it seems like bh to me.

Well its been 2 hours and the only thing is I'm getting constant bh. My stomach is very tight, I really feel like I could start contractions any time, but it took my MIL 10 hours to go into labor after she took it.
