I had meds through the iv. It took the edge off. I felt the contractions but they weren't that bad. I didn't want the epidural cause the thought of a needle in my back terrifies me!
For me they let me get in the tub. It helped a lot , other thing I did was get on all four and just rocked. Which help a lot to. That pain is intense you gave to know how to breath and relax.
I found rocking helped me when I was made to stay in the bed and walking around helped alot aswell before that. A bath helped with my home birth but I found hospitals won't allow anything more then luke warm water which was useless. Lovely hot shower when you can direct the water over your bump and then switch to back also felt good :)
Second the hypnobabies recommendation! Definitely check it out!
I've heard water is great as well. I'm doing a home water birth as a ftm because I'm kinda nervous about labour, not really scared but I'm only 19 weeks.
They can put pain meds in your iv at the hospital. They're different from the epidural, but I'm not really sure how it varies. I'm a ftm and have decided on the epidural, but my doctor and I talked about other options and that was one of them.
Look up hypnobabies. I heard its great!
For me every contraction I would say to myself relax and breathe and focus on a single point until the contraction was over then I would relax myself until the next one. I also focused really hard on not tensing my muscles during the contractions.
you can get the yoga ball thingy and like bounce on it not bounce but like move around on it and get the bby father to rub your back while on the ball the lower part or where ever it hurts at..
