Lochia (postpartum bleeding)

How long did your postpartum bleeding last?  I'm trying to remember from last time....I think mine was all over with after 3-4 weeks or so. It was more constant from what I remember, too:  this time, I have days where I barely have anything and I think it's done....and then I have more bleeding.  I'm not worried because the cramping's stopped and I've only passed 3-4 clots (and they were grape sized, nothing huge).

I guess I'm just looking forward to this "phase" being done....DS no. 2 is 2 weeks old today, so I'm sure that I still have another week or two to go, at least!

There is so much that those baby books don't tell you, like about ripping or tearing during delivery, pooing on the table during delivery, all this bleeding and grossness, oh and how the baby will lose weight between birth and leaving the hospital. Thank God my MIL told me otherwise I would have freaked.

LOL trust me Faye it's more gross than scary...it's like I told Joy on the "gross things" post...I had no idea a body could bleed so much for so long and not die....just stock up on pads when there's a sale between now and baby day :D

After my c-section with DS I bled for 6 weeks. I did have clots, and one large piece of tissue, about the size of a baseball, but I was told by my doc as long as it was smaller than a grapefruit I was ok. I also had the gushing (not the same day as the large clot), I had filled a pad it was down my leg and puddling on the floor in about 30 seconds, BUT I had a small clot that blocked it from coming out and I was at the hospital getting DS's weight checked when it happened so I ended up leaving after a pelvic exam, and was fine.

Well I have had 4 babies and now woth the 5th. Here is how mine went

1st - I bleed for like 1-2 weeks but the last week was spotting
13 months later
2nd- I bleed for 2 weeks and brown spotting for 3 days no clots
15 months later
3rd- was a c-section I bleed for 4 weeks and clotted on days 2-3 very small
17 months later
4th- I bleed for over a year becasue they left part of the placenta in me and once I passed the clots and tissue the bleeding stopped

I was told that you are never to pass any tissue unless they left some in there and that no clots should be bigger then a dollar piece. Any bigger or gushing that is steady like to soak a pad in less the 40 min is a bad sign. I have read lots of woman that bleed worse on here or passed hugh clots but that is not normal and should be checked. It really is differnent with each pregnancy and baby, the placenta could of been bigger or not wanted to release causeing tearing and more bleeding. I was always told it lasts for 6 weeks. I do know that if you lift to much or are up to much it is harder for the bleeding to stop
