Membrane Sweep

So I will be 37 weeks 5 days at my next appointment on Wednesday. Lately I have been getting more and more uncomfortable-- EXTREMELY swollen feet (even my flip-flops are too tight), heart burn so bad especially at night that I can hardly sleep, bad back pain (I had a bad back before pregnancy and now its just horrible), nausea, and sore stomach (he's getting big!).

Also, he has been measuring about a week ahead.

I am considering asking for a membrane sweep at my next appointment to speed things along. I am already 3 1/2 cm dilated and slightly effaced. Do you think my doc will do sweep at 37 weeks 5 days?

Anyone else had one done around this time? For what reasons?

Yeah, I've decided I will just ask her...the worst she can say is no I guess. I am just trying not to get my hopes up!! If she says no for this Wednesday then I am going to ask her to consider it for my next appointment at 38 weeks.

It really depends on the doc.  Many of them won't do it until atleast 38 weeks but it wouldn't hurt to ask.  But I can tell you that all of the things you are experiencing are normal and things I have experienced at the end of my pregnancies as well.

I had a membrane sweep with #4.  It got things started but it was slow going.  It took 4 days before I was really in labor.

This time I was induced but without medication. I was 2cm and 20% and my doctor attempted to break my water.  While it didn't fully break it did tear and began to leak, contractions came pretty quick and within a few hours they were coming every 2-3 minutes.  At 7 cm my doc went back and completely broke the bag of waters and about a half hour later she was born.

Just talk to your doc about your discomforts and ask what kind of natural labor inducing methods she would recommend.  Hopefully your little guy will decide to give you some relief soon.
