Mucus Plug= Dilation?

Ok this is probably a really stupid question but I was just wondering if you HAVE to lose your mucus plug in order to dilate/efface? I know that losing your plug is a good thing at the end of pregnancy since it means things are happening but if you don't lose any of your plug does it mean you haven't dilated or had any cervix change at all? I'm 37 weeks and haven't lost any of my plug yet. My last doctors appt. I was 1/2 cm so I'm just wondering if this means I haven't progressed since.

Don't worry, things will happen when they're ready. I wasn't dilated, effaced nothing until just a few days before I went into labour at 39 weeks. It can happen overnight.

I had never lost my mucous plug with my first 3 pregnancies. But with my little Max I had dialted to 3 cm and then lost my mucous plug over a 4 day period. On the 4th day my water broke.

When I was pregnant 6 years ago, I never lost my mucous plug. I didn't even go into labour on my own. My son was 9 days late. He never even dropped! I had to be induced twice because the first one didn't take. My OB had to rupture my membranes.

So there is not just 1 correct answer. Your body will do what it wants to do.

Good luck and hope you get to see your little one soon :)

Thanks ladies! I feel like more should be happening but I know every pregnancy is different. I have extreme amounts of pressure in my cervix, I can barely walk he is so low. I have an appointment today but I'm not sure if she will check me since I was just checked last week and was only 1/2 cm.
Thanks for the help!!

They say online that some people never lose their mucous plug or some people do without even noticing...  I dont think you necessary need to lose it in order to dilate or thin out.. I know i read that present of a clear stretchy discharge can be a sign that your cervix is thinning out even if your not dilating...

Also keep in mind that some people dont dilate a whole lot until they are actually in labor so they may not lose their mucous plug until well into the process.

As you know this is all confusing to me because there doesnt seem to be one clear way for things to happen.. aka some people have bloody show, some people dont but they still go on to have the baby...
