NT scan

my last appointment with my Dr was at 10 weeks, he scheduled me to see him again at 14 weeks and said 2 weeks after that we would do the NT scan.  I didn't think anything of it but now that I've read a little on it I see it is supposed to be done at 13 weeks.  How crucial is it that it is done before 13 weeks and will there be any difference if its done at 16 weeks?  Surely my Dr knows this!

the scan is ment to be done 11-13 wks and its best done right on 12 wks if you can, the older the baby the less reliable the results will be as the fluid that they measure starts to be absorbed after 13 wks, it wont be as accurate at 14wks, I would ring up and try to change that appointment if I were you

The scan should be done between 11 and 14 weeks. After that I believe the scan would be inaccurate. I had mine done at 14 weeks and all was normal.
It is not a normal anatomy scan. It measures the amount of fluid in the back of the babies head and along with blood work determines the risk for Down's Syndrome. A scan done between 18 to 22 weeks is to ***** the babies growth and  the sex of the fetus.

I didn't have mine until 18 weeks. So I guess it varies by doctor.

The NT scan, or first trimester screening, should be done between 11 weeks - 13 weeks 6 days. That's what it says on the paper my doctor gave me from when I had it done. I had it done at 13 weeks. I don't think the test would be reliable after 13w6d. Maybe he is talking about a different test?? I'm 16 weeks and my doctor juz sent me to get routine blood work tests done...maybe that's what u need too at 16 weeks.
