Yes, Prometrium would not force a period. If anything, it only helps :-)
I'm 10 weeks pregnant and have been on 200mg of Prometrium since I was 4 weeks. My progesterone dropped and my dr gave it to me to build my levels up and prevent a miscarriage due to low levels. The meds won't force a miscarriage, if anything they will give it something to implant to and raise your levels to help better sustain your pregnancy.
so you are saying that if I get pregnant while on the prometrium my risk of miscarriage is not going to be higher and the meds won't force a period right?
I am on Prometrium too.
I was prescribed that because I was not having breakthrough bleeding.
While its true that Prometrium helps build your uterus, if there is a 'period' coming, the built uterus breaks down completely.
However, if you fall pregnant, hence no period, Prometrium helps continually build your uterus (which is a good thing).
After week 12 though, your placenta takes over to develop progesterone, so you would not normally need its supplements.
Hope this helps
Good Luck
well that's the problem the only instructions she gave me were to take 200mg of prometruim orally on days 14-28 that's it!!! I didn't even think to ask any questions about if it actually helps lol. Maybe I should call and get some more advice about the medication from her.
Follow the instructions from your dr. On day 28 I had a blood test and was told to continue on the progesterone suppositories until week 12... It does not cause your period to start. They will probably bring you in for blood hcg testing and depending on the results tell you to continue if BFP or stop all meds if BFN.. Good Luck
