Pregnant drug/alcohol user, please help

I am a 23 year old college student, and just found out I am pregnant. I mean pregnant like 8-12 weeks. I don't know for sure because I haven't been to a doctor just yet, but after feeling symptoms for the first time, I just now decided to take a test, and than another one, which both came back positive. I haven't had sex in at least a month and half, so I gotta be far along. My concern is that I am a regular marijuana smoker, and heavy binge drinker of liquor. Lets just say I smoke weed on a daily basis, and am drunk 2 days a week (don't judge me, rough life). I would like to give my baby up for adoption, but am considering abortion only if the baby will be severely defective due to my poor judgement. I am anti abortion, but through the first trimester I ruined my body all around. I read online that taking large amounts of vitamin c, can cause a natural miscarriage at this stage, and I am interested in more information on the truthfullnes/safety of that. Any advice is appreciated.

I was 19 when I got pregnant with my son.  Like you I had a rough life and I was a drug addict.  I didn't findout till I was about 10 weeks in.  I was using weed, alcohol, coke, and crack on a daily basis back then. I remember finding out, stoping, going to the dr the next to confirm and then praying my heart out and begging to God that he would not takeout my stupidity on an unborn baby.  My son saved my life, I can honestly say that.  I had tried repeatedly to get off drugs before then but never could.  I started taking care of myself, going to my check ups and scans, and takin the prenatals.  My son was looking good at his scan and he came out perfectly at delivery weighingin at 8lbs even.  He is now 9 years old, beautiful, and extremely smart.  Well manner kid, no behavior problems at all.  I think your baby still has a chance.  I don't believe in abortion for myself, but I try not to judge others.  I would defiantly not recommend a home abortion if you do choose that option.  If you do it yourself you could also hurt your chances of more children in the future down the road.  I know like the others have said there are a lot of families out there who would be thrilled to have an opportunity to adopt healthy or not.  My fiancés brother and sister inlaw can't have children at all and I know how long they waited to be choose. As adoptive parents and how very much they love, cherish, and adore those two girls they have now.  I would consider all my options.  I will be praying for you and your baby and that for maybe like myself positive things can come from this.  I wish you the very best!

You can do it sweetie!  Keep your head up!  Keep us updated from time to time.  There is a lot of support to be found here.  I was first a member 4 years ago and I have two really close friends I met then that I still talk to daily.  I'm just now coming back around, but it really is a wonderful resource.  Best wishes to you! :)

Thank you all very much. I am sooo glad I posted on this. I never really wanted to have an abortion, I would just feel super guilty if my child was not healthy. Now comes the hard part.... telling my family!! Thank you all very very much for the support, honestly.

At least you know now and you can do everything you can now to be healthy. People are right, drinking and drug use does not always lead to deficits. Take care of yourself now, get on Pre-natals, don't drink or smoke and figure out your options! Good LucK!

Yes, I have stopped, but that was yesterday! I just took the test, and have a doc appt scheduled for Friday. I honestly cant see myself getting an abortion. I will give the baby up, healthy or not. I will definitely be honest with the doctor, and the adoption agency... if they even accept me. Thanks for the help.

Anytime you try to self-abort you run the risk of serious complications. No method of abortion is 100% safe, but especially not an abortion that you did yourself. I have personally never heard of vitamin C to abort, but remember that you can overdose on too much of any type of vitamin, so IMO, it just isn't safe. You could end up in the hospital.

Drinking and drug usage during pregnancy isn't safe either, but not every developing fetus will suffer ill effects. I would recommend that you wait until your appt to see how far along you are, and have your ultrasound to see if everything is growing properly. Also, after 12 weeks, most places won't do an abortion unless it's medically necessary.  You need to see your doctor and be honest about your drinking and drug usage and go from there.

Just giving you a little bit of info. My biological drank her whole pregnancy, smoked weed, and other things. I came out almost 8lbs. i was told im one of the lucky ones. I will tell you that in some cases your baby could develop fetal alcohol effect. Have you stopped using and drinking???? if not you should. I wouldnt do the natural abortion i have heard it both ways. If you do not desire to have a child then i would definately give him or her up for adoption. in my opinion its too late for an abortion. Hope this helps and im not trying to be rude. Good luck and best wishes. x x x
