Quickening

Question

Every where I have read that I should begin feeling this but people say it feels like butterflies or fluttering. I have hard time with these descriptions. I don't know what it feels like to have butterflies in my belly.And fluttering? what is this descriptive of? Family and friends tell me if I don't yet feel it don't worry as different people experience it different times. Some after 20 weeks and state that it is normal and not to worry. I do feel what i like to call pinches. Little pinches (like 1,2,3,4,5) in different areas of my body, mostly in the lower abdomen. i feel them regularly so I keep thinking maybe this is what it is.
Pinch pinch pinch pinch in the same spot for five to 15 seconds here and there...Does anyone else describe this feeling in their belly? It is not painful at all. just little pinches...Sometimes they are "harder" but mostly very subtle. Just worried about my belly and if I am okay and experiencing what is called quickening. butterflies, popcorn..I never felt this in my tummy before so how can  say that is what it feels like..lol...

The pinches are more likely to be ligaments and not the baby.  How far along are you?  Other ways to describe the feelings would be as Gina said, fish or frogs....or it is often mistaken for gas bubbles popping.  Most women, especially on their first pregnancies will not notice definate fetal movement until anywhere from 16-24 weeks.  Others maybe sooner or later, it just depends.

Thanks for answering. I feel much better now knowing I am not abnormal and that everything is still fine despite not feeling butterflies..lol

I didnt think it felt like any of those description, honestly it will feel different for everyone depending on where the baby is, and your size.

It could also be described as a goldfish swimming or a small frog jumping in there.  Is that description a little easier to imagine?
