my friend took shrooms while she was pregnant (she didnt know yet about the pregnancy) Has anyone taken shrooms by accident or for a reason while being preg? I tried to look from google about the risks but there was almost nothing about that...
Just because someone takes something before they know that they are pregnant, does not mean it is safe for the developing embryo.
I would have thought that it would also depend on how much of it she actually took and for how long.
In the event that anything serious is wrong, Mother Nature does sometimes step in.
The likely chance is that no harm has been done.
If the pregnant friend is worried, then she could tell her doctor that she did try the "shrooms" when she did not know that she was pregnant at the time and that she is concerned that it did not harm the baby.
It is highly likely the baby will be fine as I understand the "shrooms" works on the receptors in the brain. But like you say, no studies as yet that we know of have been done to know either way to any risks to the embryo.

Befor my sister knew she was pregnant with my now 6yr old neice she did alot of estacy. My neice is very smart and healthy and normal(well alittler hyper acttive) shrooms are an all natural substance so i think your friends baby will be fine. Also when i was aboit two weeks pregnant (dident know obviousy) i went to a rave and did some estacy molly and ketomine and havent done anything since and iv had a very normal healthy pregnancy so far and my baby is fine and healthy. 4 more weeks to go for me =]
Bentsmommy is right shrooms are not laced with pcp or acid or anything like that. Shrooms are pretty much a poison for your body and thats why you get the reaction you do from them.But they are exactly that just a wild mushroom. My ex also used to grow them years ago. If she didnt know she was pregnant then yes be honest with the doctor and ask about the risks. My sister did meth before she found out she was pregnant. She found out at about 3 months that she was pregnant and stopped. Her daughter is now a healthy very smart 3 year old. I smoked weed before I found out I was pregnant and so far I have a healthy baby boy growing inside me. No im not saying its ok to do these things butyou cant assume that cps is going to take the baby away or something will be wrong with it. Only time will tell. Some pregnancies are not planned so you cant always make sure your perfectly clean before you get pregnant. I know alot of women that smoked weed through their whole pregnancy and some that have done meth all the way through. Yes some of those babies have been taken away. My sister and I were both honest with our doctors. My sister was drug tested through her whole pregnancy because it was still in her system on the first doctors visit. I told my doctor that I had smoked weed but Because I didnt get into a doctor until 2 months after I found out I didnt have it in my system on the first test so they havent tested me since. Just be honest with the doctor and ask about risks. I personally dont know anyone that ever did shrooms during pregnancy.
I had read something when I first got pregnant about people not knowing they were pregnant in their first trimester, it said if you took something just one time in the first trimester then it shouldn't really effect the baby if it was just ONCE. That's just what I read though, I'm not a dr. So just pray for the best.
No I never ment to make it seem like they are okay no drug is okay while pregnancy under any curcumstance! I was just saying peoples are acting like she is doing meth or something!! Nobody knows my husband grows mushrooms doesn't pick them or sell them or anything it's just a plant to us so I am fine with it
I don't think anyone thinks that her baby is harmed by her doing it one time before she knew she was pregnant. That happens. I drank alottttt before I found out. And everything is looking great with my baby. You just kinda made it seem like it was A-OK to do shrooms (drugs) and there is always a possibility that cps could get involved... not likely if she is up front and honest... but this is about her friend it's not even about the girl that posted she is just concerned about her friend. So no one is bashing this girl. The wrong person could find out that your husband grows the stuff and no you could get your kid taken away...it's not worth the risk and imo totally selfish to do that while being pregnant knowing the risks.

Well, I experimented with Shrooms when I was like 15 and didn't like it. Not necessarily judging someone for doing them... but when you're pregnant it's definitely not safe. Weed isn't safe either...anything that alters your mind is considered a drug...weed, shrooms, alcohol etc. You cannot necessarily say alcohol would have a worse effect because you do not in fact know that. One sip.of alcohol can cause AFS. But come on? We're talking about pregnancy... and pregnancy and shrooms don't go together in the same sentence.
Just because it's not something you would do doesn't mean you have to bash people for doing it!! Alchoal would essentially do more harm to a baby then shrooms but you don't hear people on here saying oh she drank before she knew she was pregnant OMG CPS she doesn't deserve her baby!!
All the people that are saying they are laced with this and that is not accurate! My husband grows shrooms as a hobby I have never done them but I see why he like it it's a really cool process! He basically gets mushroom "sperm" and put it in vermeculite and bird seed and they grow! Its organic just one time before she knew she was pregnant baby Will be fine it's equivalent to smoking week in that sense. People are so judgmental my god.

People need to chill out? Shrooms are not JUST a mushroom.... that's why they are illegal.
I honestly know nothing about shrooms or how could affect baby, but I think if she is honest with her dr and not doing drugs since she found out, they won't have cps get involved. I mean, I admitted to dr I drank before I found out I was pregnant, and I'm under drinking age, but they did not really care since I was honest.
Cps wont immediately take your child bc of a one-time experience and being HONEST about it, goodness. And she certainly makes herself look awful by lying.
Shrooms are essentially harmless. If anything it's a bad case of food poisoning and that is what causes the hallucinations. Personally, and I am no doctor but, I think the baby will be fine. It literally is just a mushroom, the only difference is it was growing under cow poop. It isn't something that stays in your system. The only concern I would have is bacteria, in which case just ask the doctor what you would have to do if you ate something that caused you food poisoning. That's the good thing about shrooms. But again, I'm not doctor. I just couldn't imagine that type of drug to be harmful in any way other than a potential bacteria from the mushroom not being cleaned properly. People need to chill out.
If she didn't know she was pregnant make sure she lets the doctor know that, and assuming she stoped when she found out it might not be as bad.. hoping she did stop when she found out. Good luck to your friend
Honestly, just have her talk to her doctor ASAP and be honest, like rockrose saod there really isnt anything the doctor would be able to do about it since she already took them but its better that he$ she knows.
I would absolutely not tell a doctor about using mushrooms unless you want to have the baby taken away by CPS which actually would probably be a good thing.
There is not one thing a doctor can do about whatever damage has (or hasn't) been done to the fetus.
Telling her doctor she did something so irresponsible (pregnant or not, mushrooms are dangerous and stupid) just puts her on the radar for child protective services.

While I dont have personal experience with this, I can say the best advice is for her to be straight forward with her dr. Just tell the dr that she did experiment with shrooms before she found out she was pregnant, has no plans to continue, but wanted to be honest and know the potential risks. As long as she is honest with the dr they will not do anything further. But if they happen to find drugs in ver system and she has lied to them about it or kept it hidden theres more likely to be more severe repercussions.
Well, if she didn't know she was pregnant, it's really too late to do anything about this. If the baby had any blips in development, time will tell. Was it one time? I mean, obviously it isn't good, right? They are laced with acid. Lsd, Pcp and other things. The reason why you don't see much on it is because NO reputable health agency or doctor would do a study on effects on a fetus. Who would knowingly take that risk? And most, like your friend are going to be quiet about it and then see what happens with the baby. But these drugs do cross the placental barrier and therefore, affect the baby. How much will depend on how many times she did it and to what extent. Hopefully all will be fine and time will tell. A doctor could give guidance but I would expect drug testing to be instated after this. good luck
