TOTAL EMERGENCY

ok so here is the deal... i'm 19 and married, but really really! dont want kids right now. i would like to wait at least 4 more years. well the other day my husband decided to forgo his usual pull out method (which has worked for 3 years) twice in the same day (on the 15th i believe). well i wasn't worried about it, i figured that i could go get some plan b and that would be that. so the next morning (16th) i went to walgreens and took the plan b as directed. that night we did have sex, but he pulled out as usual. so no big there. the NEXT night(17th) he didn't pull out without my knowing. the next morning (18th) i went to walgreens and too the pill AGAIN as directed. so apart from being EXTREMELY annoyed i'm scared that the pills might not work (oh by the way i'm not on any other birthconrtoll method =/ ). so what i did was i called the help line that they put on the packaging and i asked  these questions:
"will the pills cancel eachother out?"
"will taking the pills in that maner have some weird side effects besides throwing my cycle off?"
"how much of a chance is it that the pills failed and i'm pregnant?"
now her answers were very vague and i'd like to put them to you to answer. i really need some opinions and since the incidents were so recent i haven't been able to test myself yet. i'm scared and need help.!!!!

There are other forms of BC. We use VCF foam and there is also a VCF film you can use instead of condoms. I prefer the foam. I am allergic to latex so we don't use condoms and I've been off BC for almost a year because we want to try and get pregnant. The foam has worked for us. You can get it at Walmart, is like $7. Not bad.
Good luck!

I didn't think a woman could get an IUD until she had a baby?  That's what my friends' OBGYN told her when she went to get one.

i guess i never considered that i would have to have kids to have an IUD. but my cousin is an obgyn in arizona and told my grandmother that it may be best for me so i'm getting info from every direction and i dont know what is what. but if you heard it from an OBGYN then your probably right. i dont think i would ever do a shot. and i want to do something that wont make me gain a ton of weight because i'm trying to stay at the weight i am. i've heard a lot of great things about nuvaring. what about the patch?? ortho evra? what have you heard about that?

Curious~ I DOUBT an OB will place an IUD in a woman with no children. An IUD can porforate the uterus. My OBGYN said he wouldn't even consider it until I'd had 2 kids. I wanted the copper IUD. Also, he told me that if a woman who's never been pregnant/had kids gets one, theres a higher chance it can be expelled by the uterus.

You can get the depo shot, but it has its risks as well. I gained 50 lbs on it myself and was on it 3 years. There's nuvaring which I personally preferred, and that worked great for me during the time I was on it.

By the way, I had my first son at 21, and now at almost 23 I'm pregnant with my 2nd son. I got married at 18. :)

i LOVE my male obgyn. The men have always been gentler and more appologetic than the females.

If you are in college, see if there's a women's health clinic on campus. That's where I had all my exams done and got birthcontrol very cheap when I was still in school. Very quick, convenient, and nice.

thanks for your opinions. he probably does want a child, but the thing is we are still living on the same property as his parents. and we are just now buying a house and we still have to remodel it, so we cant afford a child, and i dont want one yet. i mean i think that if we were in a different situation i wouldn't be as scared or worried. but right now i'm still wanting to go out all the time and finish school and hang out with my friends, not change diapers, breast feed, and carry around a stroller. i know that i'm making pregnancy and babies sound horrible but the idea just scares the hell out of me.

Awww, maybe he secretly wants a baby!

But you're being responsible so do what you can do. You may have to use condoms until you can be seen in October!

P.S. This is more of a personal thing, but I actually like male OBGYNs better. They are more gentle than women, in my experience, and in the experience of many other patients. You could write a new post with a poll for people to tell you if they like male/female gynos better, too, if it'll help ease your mind! But if you're deadset on a woman doctor, that's cool too. It's completely your decision.

there is more than one obgyn, but i really want a woman and there are only two i think in the area of the city that i live in. there is a planned parenthood close to where i am as well, but i dont know if they are open, because they are closing all around the city. i just think that an IUD would be the best choice, because i am so scatter brained. i just think that i am too selfish to have a child right now. and i would like to finish college first. i only have about 2 years. left. and i'd love to be in my job for a while first. i just dont know what has gotten into him. he's usually really careful and respectful. ugh

Using an IUD and BC might be hormone overload, unless you get the hormone-free IUD (I believe it is the copper one). There are so many options out there and I'm not very knowledgeable on the different types/kinds. But your doctor will definitely be able to help you out.

And if you do become pregnant now, it won't be the end of the world. I got pregnant with my first daughter when I was 19 and was very terrified. Now she's a 4-year-old bounding off to preschool next month and growing so fast.

Just take things as they come!

Is there more than one OBGYN clinic in your area? Or perhaps a women's clinic in which you can purchase BC? I'd call around. I'm sure you have more options than the one place unless you're in a small town. If you're unsure you could call your insurance company and ask them for some OBGYNs who take your insurance.

Don't worry about your first OBGYN appointment! If you're truly scared you could bring along a friend, your husband, your mother. It's actually really good for you to start going, BC aside, because every sexually active woman should be getting regular pap smears.

Good luck to you!

"how long should some one wait to have more accurate results on the pregnancy tests?? "

10 days after conception with a good test and first morning urine.  14 after after conception with a standard test.

The pills will not cancel each other out.

Plan B has a failure rate of 25%.

The pull out method is NOT a form of birth control.

well i have never had an appointment with an obgyn. this will be my first and i called the office but they are booked untill october!! so i'm really scared, and i wasn't trying to use the pills as BC but as emergency. i'm just irritated at my husband, and i told him if he doesn't stop i'm going to make him wear a condom but he refuses. so for me it's either be responsible or we wont have sex until i'm on birth control. i dont think he understands how badly i DONT want to be pregnant until i've hit 23.

how long should some one wait to have more accurate results on the pregnancy tests??

Well I dont really have alot of answers for you. I do know the side effects can mimick pregnancy and throw off your cycle:( Not sure about the chances of you being pregnant either. I have gotta say though if you dont want kids for at least another 4 years than you should go get on some kind of birth control and not rely on him pulling out. You will never control the situation if you leave the birth control to him. Plan B is NOT a form of birth control. It is an emergency contraceptive.

No the pills will not cancel each other out. Plan B is not a form of BC, it is an emergency contraceptive, if you dont want to be pregnant why dont you use a reliable form of bc? The "pull out method" is not a method, LOTS of women get pregnant from it.

As long as you took the pills as directed there is a pretty good chance that they worked but you will just have to wait and see to know for sure.

Good luck

You should never take Plan B twice in one month. It is a high dose of hormones. If you do not wish to become pregnant a better method of birth control is in order. But even the Pill or an IUD is not 100% effective on its own. You should always use 2 methods (condoms and Pills, for example) in order to prevent pregnancy.

Call your OBGYN, set up and appointment, and talk over your birth control options.
