Threatened miscarriage

Im about 5 weeks pregnant and friday I started having really bad cramps and bleeding so I went to the ER and they did an ultrasound and said they could see a gestational sac in my uterus but there is not yet a fetal pole. I have to go back to get another ultrasound and blood test tomorrow to see if everything is ok. Some people have claimed to experience having 'periods'

I agree, 5 weeks my doctor would NOT do an U/S and didn't want me frightened if it was too early, the earliest she would do one is 6.5 weeks, because something will be visible by then. As for a period while pregnant, you can't have a period, it's just pregnancy related bleeding, but it happens to many people who go on to have healthy pregnancies. Have you been checked for any infections? That can cause miscarriage in some cases, and drink lots of water, relax and I hope things work out for you hun!! I'm 5w3d so we're really close in due dates!!

I had jenniekae's experience, at 5 weeks just a sac, by 6 weeks the fetal pole and her tiny beating heartbeat was there. A few days or just a week makes a huge difference in the beginning.

I had the exact same thing! But they couldn't see anything in any of my ultrasound at the er, until I was 10weeks n then no heart beat,said I had lost the baby,  but then I went to a obgyn instead of an er n they said I'm perfectly fine n so is my baby.
But now I am 16weeks n have a very healthy baby growing in my belly ! With a strong heart beat

Early in my pregnancy they said I was having a threatened miscarriage. Same thing with you...was about 5 1/2weeks pregnant started bleeding. The doc did a vaginal ultrasound and saw same as you...gestational sac but no fetal pole or heartbeat. Did bloodwork and a week later another ultrasound...where they saw all that they were looking for. They said sometimes when you are that early it is just the matter of a couple days in being able to see the fetal pole and heartbeat. And my bleeding was due to the egg implanting on a bloodvessel. So I am currently 33weeks pregnant. I hope this is the case for you and that everything works out! I know it is a waiting game and a horrible feeling
