To cut or not to cut?

Hi everyone!

I am 30 years old and pregnant. 40 weeks this Friday. The thing is that my baby measured 9lb. 5oz. on May 20 (week 38). Before that he was 7 lb. 13 oz. on May 6 (week 36). My doctor called me in last week and said that there is a risk for my baby and that he recommends a C-section. Honestly, I did not count on that... I was prepared to go all natural, but he scared me by saying that there is a risk of Erb's palsy. I don't want to risk the baby, but I'm not sure what to do.
I am quite heavily build, heavy bones and all, so maybe I can handle this, but I don't want the risk for the child. Please help! I need an objective view at this situation. Thank you!

Thank you for your support! On June 3 my baby boy was born via C-Section. He was 9 lb. 2 oz. with a big head that never settled into my pelvis. The doctors had to squeeze him out and use vacuum. Luckily, he was measured 9/9 on Apgar, now he's gaining weight and squirming :) :)

Hunny trust me the c-section is the way to go i was in labor for 3 day before i had my baby girl and i could have waited longer but i got the c-section any ways and i was glad i did the cord was wrapped around my baby girls neck and body and the machines i was hooked up to did not detect it. So if i would have not gotten the c-section i would not be holding the precious gift in my arms at this very moment. Thank you for all your help and advice! The doctor measured my kid by ultrasound (I have a hypothyroidism, so we had to keep an eye on how the baby is growing), and then he also did that by hand. He said that the baby may not be as big as the ultrasound says, but still very close to 9 lb. My doctor said from the get go that he always aims for an easy delivery: no forceps, no vacuum, the least amount of stress for mother and baby. Therefore, he suggests c-section. It came as a bit of a shock, since the midwives I spoke before said that I could deliver vaginally, but when the doctor saw the ultrasound results, he called me in immediately to discuss the c-section. I just don't want to risk the baby, I know I can handle a lot, but can't risk... Thank you again! Support and all your comments help a lot!

Well if i were you i wouldnt risk it at all. I would do the planned c-section. I know its a scary thought ( at least to me) but if doctor thinks its the best, well go ahead... Good luck to you

Ok hun let me tell you this. I wish I would have a c-section with my first daughter 7 years ago. The doctors didnt see how big or anything she was, but during labor her heartbeat was dropping and she ended up getting stuck in me the had to push on my belly and tug on her head. When her head came out her shoulders were stuck they had to do break her shoulder to get her out. She was born dead, the doctors didnt listen to me when I begged for a c-section. If you have the chance to do one and you  know your baby is big DO IT dont risk you baby, my daughter has mild cp, she is able to walk. SHe has ADHD and learning problems. My second child 7 years apart was born by c-section only because of my first daughters birth. I am a bigger girl too with large bones but hunny not all babies are made to come out that way. My c-section went great, and a matter of fact I didnt even use pain pills after my c-section. Yes it did kinda hurt but not as bad as I thaught. Just do whats best for baby not what you want. And get the catheter put in after your spinal. Other wise you might freak out on them like I did. I told them to take it out because it hurt and that I wanted to go home. LOL. They took it out and then put it back in after the spinal. And the only thing about the c-section is you feel them pushing on your belly to get the baby out, and you might feel like you cant breath but really you can and they are watching your vitals. How is he measuring? Is it by ultrasound, guessing, or by feeling through the belly. There is a margin of error that has to be taken into account, and there are dozens of women who have been told they would have large babies only to get a 7 pounder. I would at least TRY and see if you can have a natural birth. Women can vaginally birth 11 pound children without a problem. Then if it's obvious you can't, have a c-section.
