Trisomy 18

I am 22 weeks and I have to get an amnio BC my test for trisomy 18 came back abnormal. Has this happened to anyone and the baby ended up OK? I am so scared and worried. Unlike Trisomy 21 (down syndrome), Trisomy 18 (Edward's syndrome) babies usually do not survive after birth. I am very worried and would love some feedback, thanks

I haven't experienced this personally but I've had 9...yes 9 friends whose test came back abnormal and all 9 of their babies were fine. I also elected to not get the test because they are definitely NOT accurate. I went through this with my OBGYN and she also said that oftentimes those tests come back abnormal. Their accuracy is very poor. I told her I would not get an amnio so why do the screenings? She agreed. I know it's so hard but please don't panic. I can't tell you how many times these tests are wrong. And remember....only 1 in 3000 babies are born with trisonomy 18. It is so rare that I would not even thing twice about it. Easier said then done but just take comfort in knowing that i have known SEVERAL people in your situation and their babies were all perfect with no trisonomy.

Not much help because I elected to not have any test done so i wouldn't worry. The test aren't always accurate. I've had friends told their baby tested positive for one thing and then they were fine. It has also been the opposite. Either way, hang in there. That must be scary to have to wonder.
