UPDATE: 36 1/2 Week Ultrasound

So I just got back from my ultrasound and Navy is now measuring 3 weeks behind schedule. She is due October 9th (but since I was on pre-term labor watch they still think she can come anytime) but by her measurements today she is measuring as being due on October 30th. Ugh. She is measuring at between 5 lbs 4 oz to 5 lbs 13 oz which to me is a HUGE difference. I didn't get checked to see how dilated I am but when I got checked at 34 weeks I was 2 cm 60% effaced and at a -1 station so I'm assuming since then I have probably progressed more. They said if she decides to come now they won't stop labor but that they would prefer her to still get a little bigger. Her breathing is fine (which after those steroid shots I would hope so), she is active, heartbeat good, good brain activity and they even said that she has a full head of hair. Anyone else concerned their baby is going to come out before he/she is fully cooked?! DH says to stop worrying since when Aspen was born at 38 weeks she was only like 6 lbs 5 ozs but I cannot help but be concerned that she is going to keep getting more and more off track. Am I worrying for nothing or can her being so small be super bad for her? I feel like I did something wrong this pregnancy and that is why she isn't where she is supposed to be. She's like in the 5th to 15th percentile for her age depending on weight.

I had my son at 36w0d. I just had an u/s the day before as I was high risk due to high blood pressure. Anyways... he was measuring right on as far as size/measurements go. Weight wise they said he was 6 1/2 lbs. U/S are at least half a pound off, if not a bit more.  Well, when I had him the next day, he actually weighed 5lbs 14ozs and was 18" long. Everyone in the room guessed 6lbs.  I was able to take him home with me when I left the next day.
Now, he's 9 weeks and weighs about 12lbs or so. He was last weighed at exactly 6 weeks and was 10lbs 5ozs. So he's gaining almost a pound a week.

My fear as well was if his lungs were mature or not. I guess they were since I was able to take him home! His Apgars were 8 & 9.

Good Luck I'm sure everything will be ok!

Dont worry!!!! Your almost at term!!! When shes out, she'll be a chunky little munky =P    Doctors are great at freaking us out. They did that quite a few times to me too. Soon she'll be here! This will all pass. To me your belly looks great! You look like where your ought to be!

i know i can understand your fear but if something were really wrong they would tell you...just repeating the ultrasounds is there way of staying on top of things. they just want to make sure she's growing from the last ultrasound. if she WASN'T growing that would be a problem but she is so i dont think you have anything to worry about. try not to worry, i know how scary it is but once shes in your arms you can keep her safe :)

See that is what I said! Aspen was born at 38 weeks and only weighted 6 lbs 5 ozs but they said that is considered in the normal range and that this baby is measuring smaller than that. Hence why I want Aspen's 36 week ultrasound to compare it to. Ugh. All I can say is they better be off or she better gain a good pound in the next week.

I think thats a normal weight. My daughter was born at 38 wks, weighing a mere 6 lbs. 2 oz. So that shes small i personally think thats fine, as long as your belly is continuing to grow, and baby is gaining.... Not all babies are 9lbers.

I know they aren't changing my due date it just worries me that she is measuring so far behind and that they keep making me come to these measurement ultrasounds and freaking me out more.

i agree with losing in that ultrasounds can be off by up to a pound. she may be right on track, but as far as her size, i wouldn't be concerned. they don't change due dates based on 36 week ultrasounds because babies at this point grow at their own rate. what is important is that they're organs are all fully formed and functioning. if her breathing is good there is nothing to worry about. also little girls do better born early than little boys, chances are strong if she was born today she'd be perfectly healthy and fine, only thing she might have is feeding problems, which considering the circumstances is hardly something to worry about. size really doesn't matter at this point.

That is what I am thinking and hoping that because she is just so curled up they have a hard time determining things accurately. I just want her to be perfect when she is born and not have to worry about anything. I think I'm just feeling insecure because before my appointment I went to my friends appointment with her doctor and he said, "let me guess you are 30 weeks". I told him I was almost 37 weeks and he said "oh she must be pretty tiny." Ugh.

At this point ultrasound measurements can be off by a good bit.

My first had intrauterine growth restriction.  She was 3 days past her due date and only weighed 4 lbs 15 oz.  She was in NICU for 4 days simply becuase she had difficulty coordinating the suck, swallow, breath to feed.  But by the 4th day she was over 5 lbs and sent home and the worst problem she had after that was GERD becuase of an immature digestive system, but that went away by the time she was 10 months.

I've had a ridiculous number of ultrasounds this pregnancy. Three of them were in the first trimester and she was always measuring on for her due date. Then at her 20 week scan she was measuring a little bit smaller but it wasn't really a big issue. Then since I've been having all these pre-term issues they did an ultrasound at maybe 30 weeks or so and she was measuring in the 8th percentile, next ultrasound at 32 weeks she was in the 12th percentile and then this last ultrasound at 36 weeks she's in the 5th-15th percentile. I go to a place that specializes in ultrasounds and had 2 techs come in and then the head radiologist come in and they all said that at this point they would be more worried if she wasn't making progress but that she seems to be growing and that they are looking more for her dates to correlate with their last findings then with how big she is measuring at that she might just be small but that nothing else even indicates there is a problem. I just don't know what to think. I think I'm going to request my ultrasound records for when I was pregnant with Aspen and see what she was measuring at during her 36 week ultrasound to see if the findings are similar. Its all very nerve wracking though since she can be born anytime now and I don't want her to be too small and have to be in the NICU.

did your doc say anything about the lack of growth - I thought they usually go off the first scan to get a due date as it is the most accurate as the rate in which your baby grows is always different and can make the dates go all over the place.  Measuring 3 weeks behind seems quite a big growth issue to me and even if you usually have small babies should be looked into.  Have you had many scans since you are in the high risk catagory?  Was she measuring on track at your last scan? I would ring your doc and voice your concerns, they are there to assist you and you are paying for their care which includes phone calls and any extra questions you have.  It is better to feel a bit silly for ringing and get some peace of mind then wish you had done something earlier - good luck.
