Vicodin & Pregnancy

I have a few questions that I hope someone can help me with...

Here is my store...
My husband and I have been taking vicodin for about 3 years. Anywhere from 2 -5 pills (10mg/325) almost night after work (Very rarely did we do more than 5 pills). I have quit on several times for a few weeks sometimes months. The last time I quit I went to my Dr. told him about my dependence and he prescribed Xanax. I followed the amino acid protocol that has been posted on this board and acupuncture. I took Xanax for about 3 days ( day 1 = 1 pill, day 2 = 1/2 pill, day 3 =  1/4 pill). I was doing very well and thought that I could handle a Vicodin on the weekends until my Wedding in September. Then with the wedding stress and everything that went along with that I started taking more.

I found out today that I am pregnant. We are very excited. What is the best way to stop taking the vicodin? I do not want to send my body into shock and miscarry from terrible withdrawals. Should I taper down then stop all together or should I quit cold turkey. Are the amino acids safe to take while pregnant.

Thank you in advance for your help.

from a medical standpoint i would say stop using those  drugs you can become dependt as well as the baby i am a certified medical assistant and the only drug that i have seen a doc prescribe is teyleno. and thats it only for severe cases. but if i was you please stop using the drugs if you dont really need them. yes amino acid is good to take it is a vitmain and folic acid is very good fro the baby. you can try by taking less doses of the pills and then progressively stop taking them. it may be hard but you can do it. and congrats new mommie
have a wonderful 9 months. try some relaxtion techniques to help with the anxiety and pressure.

If I was you, I would tapper off. I didnt take pills, but I smoked, and the Dr. said it was best I tapper off those, than to just stop. Stopping cold turkey would stress my body and cause stress to the baby. I am on pain pills now, I am 17 weeks pregnant, and will be on them till I have the baby, Our plan is to tapper off in the last month or so, so the baby isnt addicted. I am on pain manigment due to hernia that is tearing. Hope that helps, best of luck
