WANT TO BRING MY BABY HOME NOT A TODDLER

I JUST HAD A BABY ONE MONTH AGO. SHE WAS BORN AT 32 WEEKS, I WAS ON METHADONE AND SHE HAS BEEN IN THE NICU FOR THE WHOLE MONTH FOR WITHDRAWLS. I AM WONDERING WHY THEY HAVENT STARTED THE TAPERING OFF PROCESS OR WHY THEY HAVE HER ON MORPHINE INSTEAD OF THE METHADONE? ALSO, IS THERE A WAY I CAN BRING HER HOME AND TREAT HER THERE WITH HER MEDICATION? I WANT TO BRING MY BABY HOME NOT A TODDLER....

The baby is not even full term yet, hardly a 'toddler,' please be patient.  You had a baby early who has addiction problems, you probably are under a little scrutiny yourself.  Bear patiently with what is happening for your own sake.

Im sorry youre going through this but your baby was born at 32 weeks and more than likely her lungs were not fully developed. And she was basically born addicted which did not help the situation. Most preemie babies stay in the hospital until they are full term weight and eating on their own. If they are still dealing with the withdrawl process any stress to her tiny body can do alot more harm to her than it would to a normal preemie. You have to them. We cannot answer this for you. This is something you need to discuss with the NICU doctor. We have no idea the complete situation and cannot give you an answer as to why they have not started the tapering process. Please do not take this the wrong way but think of how bad you feel going through withdrawls...Imagine a baby that cannot tell you how shes feeling but only cry. Thats what happens. Babies are very irritable and have a poor appetite and slowed heart rate and decreased blood pressure. Your baby was not full term, and like I said adding the stress of the withdrawls to that could be fatal for your baby.
