I found the set I wanted on Babies R Us online but I ended up buying it from cribs.com. This is a fantastic website that has everything all the major stores have for about 20% cheaper plus they do FREE SHIPPING!!! You can also google "cribs.com promo codes" and find discount codes to add during checkout and you can save even more money. I saved 50 dollars on my crib and then used my husbands email to use the same promo code and saved another 50 on the dresser and changer!!!
Hey there... we live in Oro Valley (just north of Tucson) and I know that Scottsdale has a TON of baby boutiques. Check around Fashion Square... that area... my friend bought beautiful furniture at a boutique up there. I agree... Baby's R Us doesn't have what we are quite looking for... but you might find some unique furniture somewhere else. If I can get ahold of her, I will ask her what the name of the shop is :) Have fun decorating! :)
Yard sales--- I didn't buy nursery furniture. I found a dresser I liked, then a rocking chair I liked. I found a vintage changing table at a yard sale for $5. My grandma bought our crib from Babies-R-Us (I still have it, though my nephew is using it right now--- my youngest is using a more feminine Jenny Lind crib that I found at a yard sale for $15).
When my oldest outgrew the crib (which we needed for her newborn sister) I found a bedframe on the side of the road. I cleaned it up, painted it, and bought a new mattress.
Not everything has to be new or perfect. Find unique things that you like (antique stores are cool--- my SIL found a short dresser that was PERFECT for a changing table top and is growing with her son for $40). You can paint them, put new knobs on them, make them YOUR OWN!
We got ours from ikea, it's not that expensive really =] They have everything!
I got mine on jcpenney.com
i did craigslist....i got the 4 in 1 crib, the one that goes from crib/changing table to twin/nightstand, as well as the matching dresser for $150 it's only 3 years old.....and it's a nice heavy wood too....walmart had the same crib in a darker wood(without the dresser), for nearly 200.....but i guess i don't always buy everything new, and figured it could be painted as alex grows.....but i like it, esp since later instead of being just a plain toddler bed, it turns into a toddler's captains bed(has drawers underneath!), and the drawers can later be used underneath a twin or full bed, or DH said we could build shelving on top to make it a book shelf or tv stand when he's older.....
I don't know if you have a Burlington Coat Factory near you but they have "Baby Depot" inside and lots of great deals on baby furniture and EVERYTHING baby! We went to babies r us and about had a heart attack looking at the prices...we went next door to Baby Depot and found just what we were looking for!
